Have you noticed small groups of dark brown or big black ants crawling through your home in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland or Delaware ? If so, you may want to act sooner rather than later. Pest control experts explain carpenter ants pose a real threat to the structure of your home, and they may also make your house a less-healthy place in which to live. However, you can get rid of them with careful and timely remediation techniques. To protect your home from carpenter ants, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective carpenter ant treatment options should an infestation occur.
Spiders
If there’s a nursery or toddler area, food that’s dropped on the floor and used diapers can attract pests such as mice, flies, spiders, and more. Older kids also bring their lunches to school and dispose of them in the same area, so eliminating pests who are attracted to food scraps can be difficult.
Termites
When you partner with Viking Pest Control, we’ll help you take preventative action against termites and get any current termite activity under control.
Bed Bugs
Your local bed bug exterminators at Viking Pest Control will protect your business from bed bug infestations.
Fleas
Fleas are tiny insects that survive by attaching themselves to bird and mammal hosts, most often in wooded areas. There are over 2,500 different species of fleas found around the world. Fleas are known as one of the world’s best jumpers, able to leap a distance of more than 150 times their body length. As parasites, fleas survive on the blood of their host.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches can be a major concern in homes and businesses. Besides being unsightly and creating an unclean feeling, cockroaches carry several diseases and can cause real sanitation problems, especially when it comes to food safety and air quality, in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Exterminators explain there are a few common species that thrive in the summer months and seek shelter in the colder winter months. Cockroaches live in tight spaces and tend to hide, so if you see one, that may be a small glimpse of a larger infestation living inside the walls of your home or business.
Silverfish
During the summer months, your technician will provide a protective barrier around your home for common summer pests, (including ants, spiders, and silverfish), and flying insect nests will be treated to eliminate active populations. SMART Premier Plan customers will also receive Yard Guard mosquito and tick treatments as these pests are dangerous vectors for disease and can cause serious health issues such as EEE, Zika Virus, and Lyme Disease. Viking’s Convenience plan, SMART Home Protection, and SMART Premier Plan customers will also receive an exterior inspection for rodent entry points as well as any developing activity to stop rodents from entering. All yearly Home Protection Plan customers receive Unlimited Service Requests for covered pests. If you notice pest activity in between scheduled preventative treatments, Viking Pest will treat your home for covered pests at NO ADDITIONAL COST.
Bees
NOT treat nor exterminate Honey bees. Honey bees are important pollinators and are an integral part of our environment. If you do not know what type of bee you see around your home, call Viking Pest, and while on the phone, a certified, trained representative will help you determine if it is a bee or another pest.
Wasps
Cicada killers are large wasps that get their name from the unique way that the females feed their young. Cicada killers capture and paralyze cicadas and place them in a burrow in the ground to provide food for their larvae. The burrows that these pests dig can cause problems in your yard and cicada killers will sting if they are disturbed. To protect your New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Delaware home or business from cicada killers, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.
Ticks
Mosquitos and ticks are among the most common pests in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  They are also among the most loathed and dangerous. But just because they call this region their home, it doesn’t mean you have to accept them living in yours. Viking Pest Control is pleased to offer Yard Guard, our Award-Winning Mosquito and Tick control treatment service that protects your home, yard, and family from April through October.
Crickets
While Jiminy Cricket is great to see on the silver screen, crickets around your home or business can become a significant nuisance requiring pest control experts to corral. While these bugs don’t pose a direct threat to humans, they can become a problem by damaging young plants, stripping the soil of vital nutrients, or creating an irritating chorus of chirping. To protect your home or business from crickets, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.
Earwigs
Earwigs are small pests that have an extended history of folklore surrounding them. Despite the long-held belief by some, earwigs do not crawl into your ears and lay eggs while you sleep. Earwigs are, however, a nuisance and are unwelcome inside your home or business. To protect your New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland or Delaware home or business from earwigs, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.
Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are more than just tiny, annoying insects. They also transmit dangerous diseases to humans and animals alike. In the U.S., common mosquito-borne diseases include Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile virus. In other parts of the world, they’re known to spread yellow fever, dengue, Zika virus, and chikungunya virus.
Flies
The spotted lanternfly ( Lycorma delicatula ) is an exotic pest that’s native to Northern China. It has two pairs of wings but tends to jump more than it flies. It feeds on a wide range of growing plants and is usually spread through the transportation of infested materials containing egg masses. This invasive species has recently been found, and become a widespread problem, in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Eastern Shore of Maryland area. Feeding as large groups, spotted lanternflies are known to greatly weaken trees and plants.
Centipedes
Centipedes can cause quite a fright when you see one scuttle across your floor. The combination of a worm-like body and multiple sets of legs is enough to alarm just about anyone who happens to see a centipede. To protect your home or business in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, or Delaware from centipedes, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.
Millipedes
Beetles
There are several varieties of beetles that can be very problematic to a home or business in New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Pest management from certified experts, such as Viking Pest, is important to protect your NJ, PA, MD, or DE home or business.
Hornets
In more extreme cases, there may be wasp or hornet nests outside that need to be taken care of. Playground equipment, especially wooden equipment, makes a great home for wasps and hornets.
Yellowjackets
Moths
Smart Sense Mini can detect both cockroaches and moths by monitoring and attracting the insects with non-toxic pheromones. Provides detailed analytics to combat insect infestations.
Stink Bugs
Box elders are usually easy to spot, given the distinctive red or orange stripes behind their heads and running along the back of their bodies. Adult boxelders are approximately half an inch long and have dark wings. They can somewhat resemble and can be easily mistaken for stink bugs.
Pantry Pests
The borough of Westwood, NJ is known for being “The Hub of the Pascack Valley†. Westwood certainly lives up to that statement with its bustling, thriving downtown, its neighborhoods filled with family and friends, and its many parks and playgrounds for all to enjoy. What most residents of Bergen County don’t enjoy, however, is having their homes and businesses invaded by dangerous, damaging, and annoying pests like ants, spiders, mice, roaches, and pantry pests.
Stinging Insects
Bees are often confused with other similarly shaped stinging insects like wasps and hornets. However, the most common bees found in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania all have wide, barrel-shaped bodies that look fuzzy or hairy. Typically, bees in this region are found around flowers and plants and aren’t to aggressive toward humans. Bees just want to be left alone.
Mites
Because of their food-preparation purpose, kitchens need to be monitored not only for pests found throughout the hotel but also for various “ stored product insects.” These include beetles, weevils, moths, and mites that can invade stored food, whether it’s as eggs, larvae, pupae, or adults.
Springtails
Aphids
Cockroaches are possibly the most ancient insect on Earth, dating back around 320 million years. Cockroaches are a generalized insect without special adaptations like sucking mouthparts (such as aphids or cicada). There are about 4,600 species of cockroaches, about 30 of which are known to live around humans. Cockroach Exterminators explain only four or five of those are the well-known pests most of us have encountered. The most common in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware are the American cockroach, German cockroach, Asian cockroach, brown-banded cockroach, and the Oriental cockroach.
Bats are identifiable by their furry bodies and delicate wings. Bats are the only mammal in the world that can fly, and usually make their homes in caves and hollow trees. Over 1,000 different bat species have been identified throughout the world.
Raccoons
If you have a yard or nearby green patch with fleas, you’ll bring them into your house or business every time you walk across the grass. Mowing your lawn and trimming your shrubbery and trees can keep flea populations from exploding. Flea exterminators at Viking Pest also recommend maintaining outdoor areas that are clean and free of food (pet bowls, etc.) discourages animals like opossums, raccoons, and mice from visiting with their fleas as well.

Birds are a natural part of our ecosystem and most make a bird-watcher’s pastime worthwhile. However, there are some bird species considered pests around your home or business, and if this is the case, it’s important to learn which are pest birds. To protect your home or business from pest birds, you need to learn about the behavior of this pest, take steps for prevention, and find effective treatment options should an infestation occur.
Woodpeckers
Woodpeckers, are protected under Federal Law under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Due to their protection, Viking Pest Control cannot complete any bird control service for migratory birds. Sparrows
Bird control experts say although they may look similar to many native North American sparrows, common house sparrows were introduced to North America in the 1800s and are therefore considered an invasive species. House sparrows are stocky, compact birds with short beaks. Females are buff and brown on top and light gray on their necks and stomachs. Males tend to feature a reddish-chestnut color within banded black patterns on their wings.
Starlings
Starlings usually live two to three years in the wild. Congregating in residential areas, they eat just about anything, although they prefer insects when available. Starlings are unusually intelligent and aggressive, which largely accounts for their success as an invasive species. Starlings usually have two broods per year, with four to six eggs in each brood.
Crows
Other species that may cause problems include crows, seagulls, and grackles. This is when a thorough understanding of bird behavior and habits becomes such an asset. Viking Pest exercises methods of bird control that have a positive effect on local ecosystems and it carefully maintains state, federal, and local guidelines for population control.
Pigeons
While some species in the Columbidae family are protected, the common pigeon in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware is not. Also known as rock doves or rock pigeons, these birds are plump with short legs and small heads. Although plumage coloration varies, rock pigeons commonly sport light gray feathers with black bands on the wings and iridescent plumage at the throat.

Our wildlife control experts have the experience and equipment needed to safely handle and humanely deal with wild animals like raccoons, bats, skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, and more. To get rid of any wild animals that have entered your Westwood property, our wildlife control experts will first inspect your property and correctly identify what furry friend has invaded your structure.
