General Info: Amistad Academy, established in 1999, is a college prepatory public charter school serving middle school students from throughout the city of New Haven, Conn. The school serves more than 250 students in grades five to eight. It is approved by the Connecticut State Board of Education, and offers a variety of subjects, including English, mathematics, science, reading, history, geography, social studies, and health and physical education. Amistad Academy offers students the String and Rhythm orchestra and the Encore program. The program offers instruction to students in theater, karate, dance, Web page design, and performing arts and athletics. The school operates under Achievement First, a nonprofit charter school management organization established in 2003.
