General Info: Newark Radiation Oncology has several physicians on staff. This assures that you will have access to a physician anytime during your treatment. These physicians are called Radiation Oncologists. Radiation Oncologists are medical doctors with advanced training in the use of radiation for the treatment of cancer and other diagnoses. This training involves many aspects of general oncology, radiation oncology, radiation biology, radiation physics, and medicine. All of the Radiation Oncologists at our Center are board certified in Radiation Oncology. This certification, based on written and oral exams, indicates that the physician is qualified to practice Radiation Oncology.

MRI
No two tumors are the same, they come in all different shapes and sizes and every patient’s body is unique. 3-D CRT uses computers and special imaging techniques such as CT, MRI, or PET scans to show the size, shape and location of the tumor as well as surrounding organs. Our Radiation Oncologists precisely tailor the radiation beams to the size and shape of each individual patient’s tumor with special shielding. Because the radiation beams are carefully targeted, nearby normal tissue receives less radiation which can help reduce any radiation side effects.
Radiology
You may also meet our Medical Physicist or our Dosimetrist. Our Physicist has a Ph.D. and is board certified by both the American College of Radiology and the American Board of Medical Physicists. Our Physicist oversees all aspects of the quality assurance of our equipment and the technical aspects of the daily treatments. Our Dosimetrist performs many of the measurements and calculations we need to know before administering treatments. Our Dosimetrist is board certified by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists.
Computed Tomography
4D CT is a CT scan during the simulation process used to account for tumors that move while breathing, specifically lung tumors. The Radiation Oncologist may design a more precise treatment plan using 4D CT to help eliminate excess dose to normal tissue and eliminate the chance of missing the tumor.
Radiation Therapy
Because of the proximity of the rectum to the prostate, prostate radiation therapy can cause unintended damage to the rectum, which can lead to fecal incontinence issues or other long-lasting side effects. These side effects can be a barrier for men who might otherwise seek radiation, but there are options available to help reduce some of these risks.

Newark Radiation Oncology has two physicians on staff. This assures that you will have access to a physician any time you may need one. These physicians are called Radiation Oncologists. Radiation Oncologists are medical doctors with advanced training in the use of radiation for the treatment of cancer and other diagnoses. This training involves many aspects of general oncology, medicine and physics. The Radiation Oncologists at our Center are board certified in Radiation Oncology. This certification, based on written and oral exams, indicates that the physician is qualified to practice Radiation Oncology. Our Radiation Oncologists are responsible for all activities in the Radiation Oncology Center. Our Radiation Oncologist designs the radiation treatments and constantly monitors the delivery. The Radiation Oncologist also monitors the response of the patient to the treatments and treats any side effects of the therapy.
