The Sierra building is adjacent to the Mariposa building and houses a state of the art, nine-chair dental department, the pediatrics department with eight exam rooms and telemedicine room, the Ob/Gyn department with nine exam rooms and a procedure room, a conference room with teleconference technology and the Community Health Services Department.

Family Practice
The Family Health Center in Patagonia has provided the residents of Patagonia, Sonoita, Elgin and the surrounding area with family medical care since 1977. Originally founded as a private, non-profit corporation, the Center became a satellite clinic for the Mariposa Community Health Center in 1990.

Immunizations
Mariposa Community Health Center is an organization that is committed to maintaining good health and providing the best quality of care for our patients. For the past two years Mariposa employees have worked tirelessly to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic, from screening and testing to mass vaccination clinics. These operations take extensive efforts from many different teams and departments within our organization. Although the process has been challenging amid the COVID crisis, Mariposa has been able to keep all our locations open for our community.

Since our founding in 1980 we have become the largest and most comprehensive provider of medical, dental, disease prevention and health promotion services in SE Arizona. Our locations in Nogales, Rio Rico, Tubac and Patagonia offer a “one stop wellness” model of integrated care that recognizes and responds to the whole person from physical to social to psychological needs. Our services include adult/internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, dentistry, behavioral health and two full-service pharmacies. Our community outreach stems from our Community Health Services Department (formerly Platicamos Salud), which includes an entire building devoted to WIC for Women, Infants and Children. Mariposa recognizes that mental and physical health are fundamentally connected. For this reason, MCHC has an integrated behavioral health care along with medical care. In primary care, MCHC licensed professional counselors are members of the medical staff and work hand in hand with other providers to assure that the patients receive the help they need, both physically, and mentally. For Behavioral Health diagnoses and treatment, MCHC offers psychiatry, therapy, and case management in person and by telehealth for adults and children.

Mariposa’s medical team recognizes that one of the leading causes of depression and anxiety is chronic illness. Serious medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, HIV and cancer can contribute to depression. Depression can make medical conditions worse by weakening the immune system and can eventually be detrimental to a patient’s ability to effectively manage their illness. For this reason, Mariposa has integrated behavioral health care with regular medical care. The Health Center’s Licensed Professional Counselors are members of the medical staff and work hand in hand with the physicians to assure that patients receive the help they need, both physically and emotionally.

Ultrasound
Mariposa has incorporated state-of-the-art ultrasound technology for non-invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ultrasound is a technique that uses sound waves to image internal body structures and has many medical uses including fetal monitoring and imaging of internal organs to identify microscopic problems such as gall stones. With no required patient preparation and no radiation, ultrasound can also be applied to injured tissue to relieve pain and encourage healing.

The Health Center also provides integrated behavioral health services and a wide array of educational programs and classes. In addition, the Center provides radiology services including digital x-ray, mammography, DEXA and ultrasound, complete lab services and a comprehensive, on-site pharmacies in Nogales and Rio Rico with courier service to the Patagonia and Tubac clinics. Our goal is to give our customers a “one stop shopping” model of integrated care that recognizes and responds to the whole person from physical to social to psychological needs.
