Dr. Blair A. Kirkpatrick was born and raised in Bartlesville, OK. He is proud of his Oklahoma heritage and has always planned to pursue medical practice in our great state. He completed his undergraduate degree at Oklahoma State University followed by his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. He completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and was named Resident of the Year and served as Chief Resident for the Internal Medicine - Pediatrics residency program. He was initially interested in primary care, but ultimately decided to pursue his passion for gastroenterology in the adult population and subsequently completed his 3 year gastroenterology fellowship and served as Chief Fellow at the University of Oklahoma.
Primary Care
Julie graduated from the University of Oklahoma nursing program in 1997. After graduation, Julie worked in ICU for 4 years and PACU for 11 years before going back to school. Julie attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas and graduated in 2014 with a Nurse Practitioner degree. She worked in primary care for 7 years before joining the team at Norman Gastroenterology Associates in September 2021. Julie is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Oklahoma Association of Nurse Practitioners. She grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma but fell in love with Norman while attending the University of Oklahoma. She has resided in Norman since 1997.

Dr. Joshua D. Whorton is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. A native of Hollis, OK, the decision to stay in-state for his medical training and practice was an easy one. Dr. Whorton graduated Magna cum Laude from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2000. He graduated from OU College of Medicine in 2004. He completed residency in 2007 at OU Health Sciences Center where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine. Dr. Whorton also completed his three-year gastroenterology fellowship at the OU Health Sciences Center in 2011, with the last year serving as Chief Fellow.

Colon Cancer
Colorectal cancer (also referred to as colon cancer) is a cancer that develops in the colon or the rectum. These parts of the digestive system are also called the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The digestive system processes food for energy and rids the body of solid waste. Colorectal cancer usually develops slowly over a period of many years. Before a cancer develops, it usually begins as a non-cancerous polyp. A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue lining the colon or rectum. One specific type of polyp, called an adenoma, has the greatest risk of becoming a cancer.

Chemotherapy
Treatment for colorectal cancer is most effective when the cancer is found early. Colorectal cancer treatment may include a combination of surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy, with surgery being the first line of defense. Some patients may also have radiation and/or chemotherapy before or after surgery. The treatment is usually managed by a medical cancer doctor (oncologist), a cancer surgeon and sometimes a radiation oncologist.

Our endoscopy center is located in the same building with our medical practice which makes it very convenient for our patients. Our physicians treat such conditions as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, peptic ulcer disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, colon cancer and hepatitis. We are dedicated to providing every patient with the medical care they deserve.
