Overall

One morning my husband fell down the steps outside of our house and could barely move his ankle, let alone put weight onto it. He tried to hide the pain, but when I caught him crying after having to stand a short while, I had enough. We went to Aultman North because of his insurance, and I immediately wished we could go somewhere else. The lady who gave our paperwork was rude, as were our numerous nurses, and eventually the doctor. The doctor took one look at his ankle, ordered a gel brace, and said to take Tylenol for the pain, nothing for the obvious swelling (my husband couldn't even wear a shoe). The doctor would not give my husband a single day off of his very physically demanding job either, making him return that night.

After a week of dealing with a severally swollen ankle that was getting worse, my husband and I instead went to a hospital, where we were taken seriously. The doctor at the hospital was visibly upset with the Aultman doctor, and immediately prescribed heavy anti-inflammatory drugs and five physical therapy appoints, with more as needed. Of course, after putting weight on his ankle for almost a week, therapy turned into a three month long battle against inflammation and pain, racking up medical bills and expenses from time off of work. This costly, painful situation did not need to be at all. I should have trusted my own instincts to know there was something wrong rather than the rude doctor's.

I will NEVER again return to Aultman for anything more than a physical, and even then I would be hesitant. Think carefully if the inattention you’ll receive is even worth it.

Overall

I visited Aultman North Immediate care early Monday morning. My daughter was running a fever and complaining of a sore throat, coughing all the while. We arrived at 8:05, five minutes after the immediate care opened.

Of the 6 people I had the “pleasure” of dealing with, only two were polite and courteous – the kind elderly woman who took our names immediately upon entering, and the second nurse we talked to, Bonnie. They were cheerful, respectful, and tried to engage an obviously ill four year old in conversation.

The woman at reception who took my information was not sociable at all. As the first person one sees upon entering a facility, being affable to the clientele should be a number one priority. Instead, she gave the impression that I wasn’t worth her time.

The first nurse we met, who weighed my daughter and showed us to our room, was short with all my questions and impatient with my replies.

Enter Doctor Miller. When I told him my child’s symptoms and explained when they had first appeared, he seemed to have made his diagnosis right then. He stifled an exasperated sigh and began his examination, which consisted of listening to her heart and lungs, and looking in her mouth and ears.

My daughter hates having her ears looked in. The doctor tried twice before telling me to restrain her. I already knew that wouldn’t work, but I followed doctors orders, all the while trying to calm my already crying daughter and explaining to her the importance of holding still. It only took a few seconds for her to break out of my hold, and the doctor then yelled for a nurse to come in and assist.

Doctor and nurse had me lay her down on the bed, which I did, still trying to calm her down and sooth her fears. She was clinging to my neck, unwilling to let go, when the third nurse we had the displeasure of dealing with said, “come on, mom, the doctor has other patients to see.”

After being told that no antibiotics were to be prescribed, and to treat the symptoms, as it were, we were discharged, leaving my daughter whimpering in fear and me fuming mad at the way my daughter and I had been treated through this whole time consuming progress.

Every step of the way we were met with rude people who seemed to think we weren’t worth their time or energy; the nurse who said “the doctor has other patients to see”, as if my daughter and I weren’t important enough to receive their medical care; the doctor who seemed to chide me for seeking prompt medical attention for my child’s illness - apparently doctor miller would rather wait until the illness is rampant as opposed to stopping it before it gets worse.

This was the worst I have ever been treated as a client, anywhere. I went seeking medical attention for my child, which I feel I did not receive. I was treated like a second class citizen, my wishes ignored, my child forced to kicking, screaming, and crying when the impatient medical staff refused to let me try to calm her down.

Never again will I return to that place. I will never recommend it. I will drive twice the distance one way to avoid it. The mistreatment my daughter and I received there is unforgivable and unforgettable. Those people should feel ashamed for the way they treated a sick, scared, tired child.
