Warts
Cryotherapy
Warts are non-cancerous skin growths caused by a virus. Wart viruses are contagious and can spread through direct contact or contact with something that has touched the wart. Warts can also spread from one part of the patient’s body to another. Warts found on children often go without treatment because they normally clear up by themselves. Adults have multiple options for wart treatment, including Cantharidin, Cryotherapy, Electrosurgery and curettage, or excision. Cantharidin is a treatment applied to the wart that creates a blister underneath it and makes it possible for the wart to be removed from the skin about a week later. Cryotherapy is the most common treatment, where the wart is frozen off the skin. It is normal to need more than one cryotherapy treatment. Electrosurgery, or burning, is a good treatment for common warts and is combined with curettage (scraping off the wart) to complete the treatment. Excision is a treatment that involves cutting the wart out of the skin.
Pediatric Care
Dr. Spencer grew up in Danville, Illinois, the son of a dermatologist. After undergraduate and graduate studies in music and theology at Peabody Conservatory and Oral Roberts University, he began medical training at the University of Oklahoma, School of Medicine. He received his medical degree and trained in Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma from 1987-1990. He then completed his dermatology residency at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, from 1990-1993, and a Cosmetic Surgery and Mohs Surgery Fellowship in Arkansas from 1993-1994.

Mohs Surgery
The entire procedure is repeated until all areas are free of cancer. Once the removed tissue shows no signs of cancer, the above process stops, preserving healthy, normal tissue and closure of the defect takes place. Mohs surgery ensures that all and only the diseased tissue is removed, therefore minimizing the scar from the cancer removal.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Botox is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles. Restylane and Perlane are natural cosmetic fillers. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.
Eyelid Surgery
Blepharolplasty is cosmetic eyelid surgery in which excess skin, fat, and muscle from around the eyes are removed to correct droopy eyelids and bagginess under the eyes. The goal of the surgery is to create a more rested appearance and the illusion of larger, more alert eyes. Sometimes, blepharoplasty is performed to improve vision problems, particularly when excess upper eyelid skin begins to interfere with peripheral vision. The surgery can be performed on the upper and lower lids, at the same time, or separately. It is important to know that blepharoplasty will not remove “crows feet” nor will it alter rough or darkened skin around the eyes.

Laser Resurfacing
Chemical peels can be performed at different levels of the skin. The level of penetration determines the results as well as the healing time and potential side effects. Superficial peels (glycolic acid, salicylic acid, low-strength TCA, and Jessner’s solution) penetrate the epidermis (uppermost layer of the skin). Intermediate depth peels (medium-strength TCA) penetrate the papillary dermis or upper reticular dermis (the second layer of the skin). Deep chemical peels (high-strength TCA and Phenol) penetrate the mid-to-deep reticular dermis but have largely been replaced by laser resurfacing.

Dermabrasion

Skin Cancer
It is absolutely normal for adults and children to have a few moles on the body. They are most often nothing to worry about, but it is possible for Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, to begin in a mole. Most moles do not require any type of treatment, but some patients may wish to have moles removed if they find them to be unattractive or bothersome. Moles that have the potential to become skin cancer are also removed. This can be accomplished in two ways: surgical excision or surgical shave. Surgical excision entails cutting the mole entirely out of the skin and stitching the area closed. If the mole is suspected to be cancerous, it will be sent to a lab for biopsy. A surgical shave entails the use of a surgical blade to remove the mole from the top of the skin.

Acne Treatment
Eczema
Eczema is a skin condition that affects an estimated 35 million people in the US. The condition causes symptoms such as dry skin, itching, red or inflamed skin and swelling. Though there is no cure, Eczema patients have treatment options that include moisturizers, over the counter cleansers and products, or prescription medications. Phototherapy, which exposes the area to light, is another possible treatment for Eczema.
Lesions
Basal cell cancer most often appears in several different forms on sun-exposed areas such as the face, scalp, ears, chest, back, and legs. The most common appearance are white pearly nodules or pimple-like growths. These lesions may become tender, bleed, crust and even heal, only to come back again and again. A less common form called morpheaform, looks like a smooth white or yellowish waxy scar. A very common sign of basal cell cancer is a sore that bleeds and heals up continuously.
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a process whereby a particular peeling agent or acid is placed on the skin to produce a controlled injury. Chemical peels can treat photodamaged skin by improving texture, evening pigmentation, and reducing wrinkles.
Skin Care
We began business on July 15th, 1998. In addition to the many years of experience our staff has, they receive weekly training from our dermatologist, Dr. Spencer, on the latest in skin care. Our staff also participates in continuing education in other pertinent subjects.
Psoriasis
The exact cause of psoriasis is still unknown, but we do know the immune system activates a type of white blood cell which causes inflammation and the skin to grow more rapidly than normal. With psoriasis, the skin replaces itself about every 3-4 days verses normal skin which takes about 30 days.
