        Founded in 1976, Melon Acres Inc. is one of the leading providers of agricultural/farm products in the United States. Based in Oaktown, Ind., the firm is the first grower in Indiana to use forced-air cooling to increase the storage time and quality of muskmelon. Its vegetable growing and packaging processes are dealt with the standards of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Melon Acres Inc. is one of the first farms in southwestern Indiana to utilize fertigation as a means of reducing nitrogen use and preventing contamination of ground water. Some of its products include watermelon, cantaloupe, asparagus and sweet corn. The firm's packing facilities are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certified.
