Cryotherapy
The ability to destroy cancer cells using a relatively noninvasive procedure. Cryotherapy is associated with minimal blood loss and pain, is much better tolerated than an open radical prostatectomy, and has a more rapid posttreatment convalescence. These differences may be less pronounced compared with minimally invasive (robotic or laparoscopic) prostatectomy.

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome — This type of prostatitis (the most common) isn’t caused by bacteria. Often an exact cause can’t be identified. For some men, symptoms stay about the same over time. For others, the symptoms go through cycles of being more and less severe.

Millions of women experience involuntary loss of urine called urinary incontinence. Women experience incontinence twice as often as men. Pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and the structure of the female urinary tract account for this difference.

Dr. Locke is a native Floridian and was raised in Ocala, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She focused on her pre-medical studies, graduated with Honors, and returned to Florida to attend the University of Florida College of Medicine for her medical degree. After graduating in 2012, Dr. Locke completed her Internship in Internal Medicine at UF Health before advancing on to her Dermatology training at MetroHealth-Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency and developed a special interest for surgical procedures of the skin. This led her to seek additional training through a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology where she trained under experts in the field.
Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers, affecting approximately 68,000 adults in the United States each year. Bladder cancer has long been considered a disease of older men. Though it is more prevalent in men, studies have shown that women are more likely to present more advanced tumors and have a worse prognosis than men at almost every stage of the disease. According to a report published by the National Cancer Institute, the survival rate for women with bladder cancer lags behind that of men at all stages of the disease. African-American women, particularly have poor outcomes when diagnosed with bladder cancer. They present with the highest proportion of advanced and aggressive tumors when compared to African-American men and Caucasian men and women. In addition, the number of women diagnosed with bladder cancer has been increasing.

If the infection stays just in the bladder, it is a called a bladder infection, or “cystitis.” If the infection travels up past the bladder and into the kidneys, it is called a kidney infection, or “pyelonephritis.” Bladder and kidney infections are both types of UTI.

Ultrasound
A physical examination by an experienced physician is usually sufficient to diagnose Peyronie’s disease. The hard plaques can usually be felt with or without an erection. It may be necessary to induce an erection in the clinic for proper evaluation of the penile curvature; this is usually done by direct injection of a medication that causes penile erection. Pictures of the erect penis may also be useful in the evaluation of penile curvature. In some cases, an ultrasound examination of the penis is used to characterize the plaque and check for the presence of calcification.
MRI
SoracteLite TPLA (Transperineal Laser Ablation), a new Focal Laser Ablation method, consists of the percutaneous insertion of optical fibers via transperineal access under MRI-US Fusion Imaging guidance and the delivery of laser energy for several minutes to heat the tissues until they are destroyed with a sufficient safety margin. The treatment is carried out with needle guiding systems for positioning the applicators in the lesion, allowing the treatment of only the cancerous tissue, thus sparing the remaining healthy prostate.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
CT scan — CT scan is an imaging test that examines the structure of the kidneys, ureters, and bladder. The CT scan can show the extent of a cancer, determine if there is a blockage in the urinary tract, and determine if the cancer has spread outside the bladder. CT scans usually require the use of contrast dye.
Chemotherapy
Androgen synthesis inhibitors — Abiraterone acetate (Zytiga) is a drug you take as a pill. It stops your body and the cancer from making steroids (including testosterone). Because of the way it works, this drug must be taken with an oral steroid called Prednisone. Abiraterone may be used before or after chemotherapy in men with mCRPC. These drugs are often called second-generation anti-androgen and are used along with other antiandrogen therapies.
Iontophoresis
Penile traction, iontophoresis, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), and radiation therapy are other treatment approaches to Peyronie’s disease (PD), but none have been shown to be conclusively effective in randomized trials. Well-designed studies are needed to document a treatment effect, should it exist, prior to widespread use.
Radiation Therapy
Radiation may be given one time, or at a few visits. The treatment is like having an x-ray. It uses high-energy beams to kill tumors. New radiation techniques focus on saving nearby healthy tissue. Computers and new software show where the cancer is exactly. They target the radiation to pinpoint where it is needed. These methods are expected to improve the success of radiation therapy. They also cause fewer side effects.
Radiation Oncology
The following treatment recommendations based on risk stratification are consistent with guidelines from the American Urological Association (AUA), American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO), which have been largely endorsed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

Minimally Invasive Surgery
A program for minimally invasive surgery, including robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery for the management of prostate, kidney and bladder cancer.
Robotic Surgery
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) is the most common type of prostate cancer surgery done today. The surgeon is assisted with a robotic system that holds and guides the laparoscopic surgical tools and camera. It also allows the prostate to be removed through tiny ports placed in your belly. In experienced hands, RALP and retropubic prostatectomy (see below) have similar outcomes. There is also less blood loss with robotic surgery than other methods.
Hysterectomy
Hysterectomy — In women, the bladder and uterus are supported by many of the same muscles and ligaments. Any surgery that involves a woman’s reproductive system, including removal of the uterus, may damage the supporting pelvic floor muscles, which can lead to incontinence.

Skin Cancer
The most common type of bladder cancer in the United States and western Europe is urothelial carcinoma, also known as transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). Other types of bladder cancer are also found occasionally, including squamous carcinoma (which resembles skin cancer under the microscope) and adenocarcinoma (which has a glandular pattern, similar to bowel cancer, under the microscope).
