Pain Management
Anything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.

Dogs and cats can be allergic to the same things that people are: ragweed, mold, dust, pollens, etc. The majority of people’s histamine releasing cells are in their respiratory tract, which is why people get a sore throat and stuffy nose. But dogs (and cats) are different, the majority of their histamine releasing cells are in their skin and the histamine is activated by skin absorption, the pollens stick to their skin and coat and activate the itch response.

It can be, inhaled allergies can cause allergic rhinitis and bronchitis, but other things can cause sneezing and coughing too, and in general most dogs with allergies have a stronger skin itch response than upper respiratory issues.

In addition, recent studies found that grain free diets may contribute to Dilated Cardiomyopathy in dogs that are genetically predisposed, one of the studies found prevalence in Golden Retrievers. Grain free diets high in legumes as a source of protein are over-represented as being taurine deficient. Kidney Disease Treatment
Cats are considered to be obligate carnivores which mean that they need a much higher percentage of protein in their diets. Protein content of canned food is often higher than what can be obtained from a dry kibble. Cats also have a high propensity for kidney disease as they age. The higher water content of canned food is beneficial is maintaining urinary tract health. Additionally, cats’ teeth are made for the shearing of meat, not the crunching of bones. Cats get no benefit from the crunching of kibble. We recommend that all cats be fed primarily canned food and supplemented as needed with dry.

Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.
Veterinary Surgery
Quail Creek Veterinary Clinic is an AAHA Accredited full service companion animal hospital. It is our commitment to provide quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to provide the best in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime. We've been serving the communities of NW OKC, Quail Creek, Nichols Hills, The Village, and Edmond for over 20 years.
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Laboratory Services
Your pet will have blood tests done if they have not already been performed to make sure no adjustments to anesthesia are necessary.

Microchips can be implanted any time without anesthesia, but many owners choose to have this done while their pet is anesthetized.

General Pet Care

Boarding
Boarding: We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. For dogs we have spacious runs and a suite that feels like home! Cats enjoy our kitty condos and quiet homey room. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Friday. We offer Sunday afternoon pick-up if pre-arranged from 4-4:30.
Grooming
Ward personnel are responsible for animal handling, bathing and grooming, cleaning, feeding, laundry, waste disposal, and running lab work.
Senior Pet Care
We offer a semi-annual exam including bloodwork if your pet is considered a "Senior Pet", typically a dog over the age of 6 for large or giant breed dogs, 8 for medium dogs, and 10 for small breed dogs, or a cat over the age of 8. These yearly exams (typically 6 months after an annual physical) may be recommended earlier if your pet has a previously diagnosed health condition or is on a medication and requires close monitoring.
