Growing vertically in 1969 from one to three stories, a new three-bed intensive care unit was also established. Changes throughout the years have included addition of in-house nuclear medical services, certified sleep center, Senior Behavioral Care Unit, and various renovation projects of different areas. In addition to the hospital facility, Mizell also expanded services to include a world class Wellness Center and the addition of the Mizell Medical Clinic for primary care. These changes provide more privacy, streamlined processing, and more convenience for the patients of the hospital.

A Carotid ultrasound is a safe, painless procedure that uses sound waves to examine the structure and function of the carotid arteries in your neck. Carotid arteries deliver blood from your heart to your brain and are located on each side of your neck. Carotid ultrasound is usually used to test for blocked or narrowed carotid arteries, which can indicate an increased risk of stroke.

Radiology
Opp Imaging Services recently received notification of renewal three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology. Opp Imaging Services has maintained this accreditation for 17 years. The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR Committee of Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. The accreditation provides a higher level of confidence for patients, referring physicians and insurance companies that patients are receiving the highest quality of care. X-Rays
Nuclear Medicine
A nuclear medicine called thallium or myoview is injected into your bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line, usually in your hand or arm. After the injection you will need to wait 30 to 45 minutes for this substance to mix with your blood and travel to your heart. A special scanner similar to an X-ray machine - which detects the radioactive material in your heart - creates images of your heart muscle. Inadequate blood flow to any part of your heart will show up as a light spot on the images because not as much of the radioactive dye is getting there.
Mammography
Mizell Memorial Hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic imaging tools. The imaging modalities include diagnostic x-rays, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine, mammography, DEXA scans (bone density scans), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All procedures are maintained on the Radiology PACS (picture archiving computer system) for future reference.
General anesthesia is accomplished using a variety of drugs to make the patient unconscious and insensitive to pain. This will be used during procedures such as gallbladder removal and hysterectomy.
Occupational Therapy is the therapeutic use of everyday life activities (occupations) with individuals or groups for the purpose of enhancing or enabling participation in roles, habits, and routines in home, school, workplace, community and other settings.
