A root canal is one of the most popular endodontic procedures and involves removing infected nerves from the tooth's root. An infection can cause more significant issues, such as bone loss, if it is not addressed. A local anesthetic is used to numb the tooth's surrounding area before the dentist drills down to make an opening during the root canal process. After removing the infected tissue, the canal is cleansed and sealed with a sealant. It is very advised to have a crown to increase the success of the root canal.

Resin Composite
Inlays and onlays, also known as partial crowns, use the existing tooth as a base to fit the inlay or onlay onto the tooth. This strengthens the tooth, restores its shape, and prevents further damage. This procedure involves removing the decayed area of the tooth, taking a mold and creating a restoration made from porcelain, gold or composite resin. The restoration takes 2-3 weeks to make, and a temporary inlay or onlay will be placed on the tooth for that time. Once completed, the tooth will look natural and it will not be visible that it is a restoration.

Gum surgery, such as osseous surgery, is typically performed for severe cases of periodontitis, causing bone loss and tooth movements. During osseous surgery, the periodontist removes infected tissue and reshapes the bone to prevent further damage. This procedure helps restore gum and bone health while preventing tooth loss, and is a much needed treatment for those who are experiencing prolonged or severe cases of periodontitis.
Tooth Extractions
Teeth extraction, especially of the wisdom teeth, is a common procedure. When trying to erupt through the gums, wisdom teeth can cause issues, and impacted wisdom teeth can cause discomfort, irregular emergence, and partial emergence. Infections of the pericoronitis can result from partially erupted wisdom teeth. Impacted teeth and troublesome wisdom teeth must be extracted in order to solve these issues. Both local and general anesthesia options are available for the surgery. The gum tissue is cut open to show the tooth, which is subsequently loosened and lifted during the extraction. Sometimes, when a tooth is impacted, it cannot be removed whole and must instead be split into pieces for removal. To close the incision site, sutures may be required. Recovery calls for rest, soft foods, avoiding smoking and straws, and pain management. If a patient experiences pain, bleeding, or irritation after the procedure, they should follow-up with the dentist.

Dr. Lin completed her bachelor degrees in Public Health and Biology at University of California, Berkeley and received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from University of Pennsylvania with Honors in Clinical Dentistry and Community Health. Prior to becoming a dentist, Dr. Lin was very engaged in the public health field, as a researcher, project coordinator, and community center educator. After she completed a rigorous General Practice Residency at Northwell Health, she has found a home on Long Island. She delivers excellent dental care while staying current with the latest technology and research. Among her commitment to a lifelong pursuit of education through continuing dental education, and is an active member of American Dental Association, NYS Dental Association, Nassau County Dental Association and Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Lin and her family love the diverse culture that New York offers. In her free time, she swims, plays badminton, enjoy traveling and learning new things with her daughters.
