Dental Examination
Your first visit will consist of a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums by the doctor, and a thorough cleaning will be completed by the hygienist. Any necessary x-rays will be taken. The treatment fee will vary based on the type of x-rays needed to make a diagnosis.
X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
Since this is your first visit, plan on spending some extra time at the office. Your first visit with the doctor will typically consist of a health history evaluation, an examination of your teeth and gums, an oral cancer screening, and the taking of any necessary x-rays. The doctor will then evaluate your information and create a customized treatment plan with you. A thorough teeth cleaning will then be completed by your hygienist.

Teeth Cleaning
At Plum Grove Dental Center we offer exams, teeth cleaning, oral hygiene instructions and treatment for periodontal disease.
Fluoride Treatment
We do not treat all our patients the same with regards to fluoride use. Fluoride treatments are given to children, teenagers, anyone with a high decay rate, and adults with significant gum recession or root-surface sensitivity.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a clear or white plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (premolars and molars). The purpose of sealants is to aid in the prevention of decay in these highly susceptible areas.

Fillings
Gold Restorations
Both are excellent restorations. In general, porcelain crowns are used in visible, esthetic areas. Gold crowns are generally used in less conspicuous areas. Gold restorations also cause less wear to opposing teeth.
Veneers
A dental veneer is a thin, custom-made shell of tooth colored porcelain. It is designed to cover the front surface of the tooth to improve the appearance. The veneer is then bonded to the front of the tooth.
Crowns
Yes, but there are a few exceptions. Some anterior (front) teeth may do better long term without a crown.
Bridges
A bridge is a restoration that replaces or spans the space when one or more teeth have been lost. Fixed bridges are bonded or cemented into place and can only be removed by a dentist.
Dental Bonding
Some patients can have minor crowded teeth corrected with retainer type appliances, porcelain veneers, or cosmetic bonding. Most patients can improve their smiles in only a few weeks or months for a fraction of the cost of braces.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals actually relieve pain. Local anesthetics are typically used to control any discomfort during a root canal procedure. Antibiotics may also be used if there is swelling in the area. Recent advances in technology and equipment have decreased the amount of visits required to complete the root canal.

Deep Cleaning
Surgery is done when areas have not responded to scaling and root planning procedures. Surgery allows the dentist and the patient to access hard to reach areas that require the removal of plaque and calculus. Surgical procedures also allow access to recontour bony defects to promote proper healing.

Dentures
Not necessarily. If the teeth and base are in good condition, not a lot of bone loss, and you still like the way they look, the fit of your dentures may be restored with a reline procedure. You should make an appointment for a complementary consultation to discuss your condition with one of our dentists.

Dental Implants
During her periodontal training, she worked as an associate professor for 2 years at SLU, and received the first award for excellence in implant dentistry. She is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and speaks fluent Korean.

Orthodontics
All dentists are trained in some aspects of orthodontics. Also, some general dentists have received additional training and are qualified to perform more comprehensive procedures. More complex cases are typically referred to the orthodontist.

Teeth Whitening
Yes, home bleaching with 10-15% carbamide peroxide has shown to be safe. The only side effects we seem to see are some mild, temporary temperature sensitivity.
