Dental Examination

The cleaning will take approximately 30 minutes, after which Dr. Tremmel will examine your mouth to make sure your teeth and gums are in optimal condition. X-rays
Digital x-rays are the newest technology used in dentistry to take and archive dental x-rays. Digital x-rays significantly reduces the amount of radiation as compared to traditional dental x-rays. This technique captures a digital picture of teeth with their supporting bone structures and stores the images on a computer in our dental office in Palatine, IL. You and Dr. Tremmel will be able to instantly view your x-rays and enlarge the image to aid in the identification of dental problems and to guage your dental health. Dr. Tremmel will use this information to create an individualized treatment plan.
Oral Cancer Screening
Dr. Tremmel understands the severity of oral cancer and believes that oral cancer screenings are imperative for your overall health. Ask Dr. Tremmel about your personal risk for oral cancer, based on genetics and your lifestyle choices. Dr. Tremmel will recommend an oral cancer-screening interval that is best for you.

Teeth Cleaning
Professional topical fluoride applications, such as foams or varnishes, are common after your dental cleaning. They are administered by Dr. Tremmel and are usually left on for a few minutes. These topical fluorides are normally applied right after a cleaning, which can make them more effective because they aren’t being blocked by a layer of bacteria. They are able to reach the “soft” areas or starts of cavities and help re-mineralize them!
Fluoride Treatment
The AAPD encourages fluoride treatments for children and states that professional fluoride treatments are beneficial and best utilized as part of a comprehensive preventive program developed by Dr. Tremmel.
Dental Sealants
As teeth develop, pits, fissures or deep grooves form on the surface of the tooth. The pits and fissures are the most cavity-prone areas, especially in children. Dr. Tremmel will carefully evaluate which teeth would benefit from dental sealants.

Fillings
Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are used to cover chipped, stained or misaligned teeth. The thin layers of the veneer material adhere to natural tooth enamel to create a strong, long- lasting bond. Veneers work best for people who wish to correct minor imperfections in their smile.
Crowns
Crowns can be made of all metal, all porcelain or a combination of both. Since all crowns are custom made for each patient, it may take more than one appointment to complete your crowns. At your first visit, the area is numbed to make you comfortable. Dr. Tremmel will use a dental hand piece to shape and prepare the tooth, so that the crown can properly fit over it. Impressions are then taken of the prepared tooth. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth, while the final crown is being made. The impressions are used to fabricate a model of your mouth, on which the final crown is made. When your final crown is ready, dental cement is placed into the crown and it is cemented to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is now restored to a healthy and functioning state!
Bridges
Dental bridges, the former standard for tooth replacement, have no component that serves the function of the root of the tooth. Bridges also require filing down the enamel of healthy neighboring teeth to support the bridge. This sacrifices the health of neighboring teeth that would otherwise not have been affected with a dental implant. Long-term results have shown a single implant to be much more esthetically appealing and easier to clean than a bridge. The gum tissue around a bridge can recede and leave an area of metal that is exposed. This results in a visible defect and an unattractive smile. In a worse-case scenario, an anchoring tooth on a dental bridge can get a cavity and the bridge can fail. This often leaves a patient with the need to now replace three teeth, instead of the initial single missing tooth.
Dental Bonding
Tooth-colored bonding material can be used to restore broken, chipped or stained teeth. The resin material reshapes the tooth and closes spaces between teeth created by gaps or chips in the tooth enamel. Each bonded area is carefully matched, so that it blends in with the surrounding enamel. Bonding may also be placed over areas of gum recession, to prevent severe sensitivity in those areas.

Root Canal Treatment
There are more than 15 million root canals performed each year in the U.S. This makes it one of the most common dental procedures. This simple procedure can save your natural teeth and prevent unnecessary extractions and tooth replacements.

Deep Cleaning
Our office treats gum disease, according to the severity of the disease and other underlying medical conditions you may have. We usually start with a deep cleaning in the office to remove bacteria from the teeth and under the gums. Dr. Tremmel will discuss with you the best treatment options and look at your medical history, to see if you might have other medical conditions, such as diabetes, that may be contributing to your gum disease.

Dentures
Partial dentures are a basic option to replace multiple missing teeth in your mouth. A partial denture rests on a metal framework that is attached to your natural teeth. Your natural teeth serve as an anchor for the partial denture to stay in place. A partial denture is a removable alternative to a bridge.
Overdentures
Implant-supported overdentures are a full set of dentures that clip into place along your jawline to which have the appearance and function as natural teeth. Like the full-arch fixed bridge denture, the overdenture is supported by dental implants. However, the overdenture can be removed at home for cleaning and maintenance. Dr. Tremmel will attach a supporting structure to the implants, so that you can snap your overdentures into place for increased stability and comfort while eating, drinking and speaking. Dental Implants
Unlike a traditional bridge, the implant bridge supports bone growth, in addition to replacing the exterior appearance of teeth. When multiple neighboring teeth are missing, the bone begins to resorb and shrink at a rapid pace. The surrounding teeth will then begin to shift and move into the open space, possibly causing greater damage to the remaining teeth. The remaining teeth begin to overcompensate for the lost teeth and they also risk being lost. The implant bridge not only replaces missing teeth, it also actively prevents further tooth loss.

In some cases, non-surgical approaches are not enough to prevent further damage. Dr. Tremmel may refer you to a periodontist for gum surgery.
Tooth Extractions
First, Dr. Tremmel will take x-rays of your mouth and determine the optimal placement of the implant along your jawline. Once the implant has been surgically placed, the abutment and crown will be attached during the restoration procedures. Most patients report less pain during recovery than with wisdom teeth extractions. However, any discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication. If you are anxious about any stage in the implant procedure, your dental team is always ready and happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Remember that every patient is different and dental implant treatment may vary.

Dr. Tremmel completed dental school in 2005 and continued to complete a 2 year dental residency program, with high honors, at the University of Colorado in Denver. She has a great love for general dentistry and loves working with children as well as adults. Dr. Tremmel has always been driven to learn, with a high respect for continuing education, and the desire to achieve the best potential possible both for herself and the care of her patients. She is an active member of the American Dental Society, Illinois State Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, and is an active dentist in the U.S. Army. Dr. Tremmel has always left time in her schedule to volunteer her dental services to those in need. She also participates on a Dental Arts board which reviews current dental research projects and products. On a more personal note, Dr. Tremmel is an avid reader, she enjoys ballroom dancing and singing as a soprano in her faith community’s choir. She also loves animals and is currently enjoying her new kitten, ”Mia”.
