Went from top notch to unprofessional and inhumane!

I have used this establishment on 3 different occasions. The first time,
our shih tzu got out and got very matted. They were very kind and gentle; she looked and felt beautiful when she left. The second time, our shih tzu had been groomed monthly by a mobile service prior (EXCELLENT) service, but she doesn't do the full grooming) and we had just rescued a 5 year old wheaten who had never been groomed. She was very matted and shy. Based on my previous experience with them, I was confident she would get the best loving treatment. They looked beautiful and we were charged $65. Our wheaten wasn't shaved down and had an amazing cut. Both times, our dogs pranced around because they felt pretty. On both occasions, they checked them when we arrived for matting and told us how they would handle the matting. 18 May, we dropped them off at 0800, they greeted them, checked them and said they would call when they were done. I know for a fact neither of our dogs were matted and they did not say they were upon arrival either. They were extra dirty and maybe had some tangles due to this extreme weather, but not matted. The shih tzu did not have the requested cut AND the wheaten was shaved down. They charged $100 and said the jump in cost was due to them both being severely matted. As soon as he got them in the vehicle, he noticed a sizable raw, red half bleeding bald spot on our shih tzu's part. I was driving home when he called me. I was very concerned and promptly contacted them. She said that she meant to tell my husband about the bald spot; that she noticed it when she was drying her hair. I was very polite and professional; I asked if maybe a different person groomed them because the results were nothing like before. She was very condescending as she told me that it was the same person. I asked why we were not contacted in the tenure of the 8 hours they were there to inform us of the supposed matting AND tell us about the huge bald, raw spot where her hair was clearly yanked out. She said they decided to spare the dog the pain and shaved her. Even her ears were shaved down! I was outraged they felt entitled to charged $100. She had the audacity to state that our little one came in with the bald spot; right after she had just told me she noticed it when she was drying her! Bottom
line, it is on her part. There is absolutely, positively zero way she had that raw, bloody spot without anyone noticing. Our dogs are loved on all the time, they even sleep with us...something like that would have NOT gone unnoticed. She ended the call with "thank you for calling with your concerns". She was very nonchalant and made me feel like I was being difficult. I had extremely valid concerns that she quickly dismissed. You would think a business owner would at least be interested in attempting to somehow make some very huge wrongs right. Not even close, she couldn't have gotten off the phone any faster. They both were skittish and hiding when they got home; strange for
two very loving, animated dogs. We had dinner and they both were still
hiding; when they are normally ready at the foot of the table waiting, tails
wagging, bumping us with their noses in anticipation of any crumb that may
make its way to them. If you are an animal lover, I don't have to explain
what this drastic change in behavior indicates. I attempted to call back 5
more times with no avail, to include the after hour number they have on
their voice mail. I sent her a text with a picture of the spot and asked
for at least 50% refund. Honestly, the entire amount should be refunded to
us. By the way, still no response from her in any way, shape or form.

The best in town.

We found Nancy/Country Critters in 2008 - and love their good service and good care of our poodles. We buy our Wysong top quality dog food there, too. She has the best people on staff, and Nancy makes sure every creature they care for is done right, in a kindly way, with great care. You can trust Nancy with your beloved pets.

Country Critters Uptown

I've been taking my dog to Country Critters Uptown for almost two years and cannot say enough about it. Nancy, the owner, and her staff are excellent with my dog and she always comes out looking great. Another thing I appreciate, besides the excellent cuts, is the wonderful atmosphere. It's very, very clean and peaceful. During one of my first appointments, I asked a question about the wash/dry procedure and Nancy invited me in back to loook around and see where it all happens. Everything was neat as a pin. Twice, I've tried other places closer to my home in Briargate, but I've gone back to Nancy after each experience -- trust me, it's worth the drive.
