We are partnering with the Susan Komen Breast Center to provide risk management to moderate and high risk patients identified through a new screening process initiated by the Breast Center. Once a patient with moderate or high risk is identified, they will have the opportunity to meet with a genetics provider to discuss their risk and learn ways to manage it. The goal is to either prevent breast and ovarian cancer from occurring or to diagnose these cancers at a stage where they are curable.

MRI
PET/CT can provide early diagnosis and accurate identification of whether or where the cancer has spread. During and after treatment, PET/CT can assess whether the treatment has been successful, by showing a decrease in glucose utilization by the tumor. PET/CT can be used for restaging, and provides early detection and localization of cancer recurrence. It can be critical in evaluation of patients in whom previous surgery or radiation therapy has resulted in scarring and distortion of normal anatomy which can hinder evaluation by CT or MRI.

X-Rays
Computed Tomography
During your CT scan, you’ll lie quietly for 15-25 minutes in a comfortable, face-up position. The Licensed Radiologist Technologist may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds several times during the exam. You should feel no discomfort or pain from this exam.
Chemotherapy
A Board Certified Physician who has special training in diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care. A medical oncologist coordinates a treatment plan with various other specialists and often functions as the main health care provider for a cancer patient.
Radiation Therapy
Chemotherapy is any treatment involving the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. Cancer chemotherapy may consist of single drugs or combinations of drugs and can be administered through a vein, injected into a body cavity, or delivered orally in the form of a pill. Chemotherapy is different from surgery or radiation therapy in that the cancer-fighting drugs circulate in the blood to parts of the body where the cancer may have spread and can kill or eliminate cancer cells at sites great distances from the original cancer. As a result, chemotherapy is considered s systemic treatment.

Additionally, our main cancer care center in Peoria includes radiation oncology, CT scanning, labs, x-rays, a retail pharmacy exclusively for our patients, and a Cancer Center for Healthy Living satellite office under one roof.

General Surgery
Surgical Oncologist: A surgeon board certified in Complex General Surgical Oncology is one who is board certified in General Surgery and has undergone specific training to acquire knowledge and skills related to the diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, and rehabilitation required by patients with cancer. Surgical oncologists are especially equipped to care for those with complex presentations or with rare or unusual cancers.
