While pain in foot joints is not unusual, particularly if you participate in high-impact activities like running, persistent aching, pain, and stiffness in joints may be a sign of arthritis. Arthritis usually affects people more as they age, and it can lead to disability if not tended to early on. Arthritis is classified as inflammatory arthritis or osteoarthritis, OA, which is the most common form of arthritis. It is a degenerative disorder caused by trauma, overuse, or wear and tear on foot joints. It often affects weight-bearing joints like the big toe. Inflammatory arthritis is a systemic disease where the mechanisms that normally protect the body attack their own joints and tissues. Rheumatoid arthritis is the most well-known of this type. Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis affects the plantar regions of the foot, namely the heel, arch, and midfoot. When too much stress is put on the plantar fascia, or the connective tissue that stretches from the heel to the ball of your foot, inflammation, overtightening, and tearing may arise. The system is a machine with an applicator that looks like an ultrasound. It is administered once a week for a series of 4 to 5 treatments. Each treatment takes approximately 5 minutes depending on the size and number of areas treated.
MRI
The foot condition known as plantar fibromatosis is rare. A plantar fibroma is a fibrous, hardened area in the shape of a circle that develops in the arch. It is a benign growth, and it may form in both feet. Many patients don't report pain unless they walk barefoot or their shoe pushes against it. A plantar fibroma may occur if an injury has happened to the sole or from the consistent pressure the feet endure while running. Research has indicated it may happen from taking certain medications, such as anti-seizure medicine, beta-blockers, or excessive doses of vitamin C. An MRI is generally performed that can correctly diagnose a plantar fibroma and may be followed with a biopsy. Mild relief may be found when custom-made orthotics are worn, in addition to taking anti-inflammatory medication. If you have discovered a lump on the sole of your foot, it is suggested that you speak to a podiatrist who can accurately diagnose and treat a plantar fibroma.

Wound care is particularly important for those with diabetes. It’s possible that what appears to be a small wound could turn into more severe foot complications down the road if left untreated. It’s common for those with diabetes to experience neuropathy. Neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that affects the body and can cause you to lose feeling in the feet. If you’re no longer experiencing feeling in your feet and a wound develops, it’s very possible it may go unnoticed if you don’t check your feet daily.

Also, diabetes can lower the amount of blood flow to the feet, making it harder for sores or infections to heal. Unfortunately, improper healing in diabetics could lead to gangrene and limb loss. Management of blood glucose levels and daily foot care can help to prevent diabetic-related foot problems. Things you can do each day to care for your feet include washing, drying, and moisturizing them, examining your feet for any sores or abnormalities, and trimming toenails straight across. If you have diabetes, it is strongly suggested that you have a podiatrist on your healthcare team and receive regular examinations of your feet.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails can form when the side of a toenail begins to grow into the flesh surrounding the nail. As a result, the affected toe—most commonly the big toe—may become red, swollen, painful, and—in severe cases—infected.
Reconstructive Surgery
Sports related injuries are commonly treated using the RICE method. This includes rest, applying ice to the injured area, compression and elevating the ankle. More serious sprains and injuries may require surgery, which could include arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery. Rehabilitation and therapy may also be required in order to get any recovering athlete to become fully functional again. Any unusual aches and pains an athlete sustains must be evaluated by a licensed, reputable medical professional.

Corns are thickened areas on the skin’s surface, and they can be irritating and painful. Corns are commonly found on the feet, and they are typically circular or cone-shaped. They develop where there are areas of pressure or friction, such as on the little toe when it rubs up against shoes, or on the ball of your foot.

While corns are often confused with calluses, there is a difference between them. Corns are raised bumps that consist of rough, thickened areas of skin that may be dry or waxy. They also tend to be surrounded by skin that is inflamed and are usually much smaller than calluses.

The area of the toes is generally warm and damp, unfortunately making it a great area for fungus to grow. If left untreated, the fungal infection can spread, which is why it’s so important to get professional help early on and look into your treatment options.
Lesions
If you suspect you have plantar warts, you may have the following symptoms: pain or tenderness while walking, a lesion that interrupts the ridges in the skin of your foot, small fleshy lesions on the bottom of the foot, or a callus where a wart has grown inward over a well-defined spot on the skin.
Psoriasis
People who have cracked heels are often aware of how their feet look in flip flops, or other types of backless shoes. This condition can be unsightly, and it affects approximately 20 percent of people across the country. There are various reasons why cracked heels can develop. These can include standing on hard surfaces for much of the day and wearing shoes that do not support the heels. Additionally, there are certain medical ailments that may promote getting cracked heels, consisting of fungal infections and thyroid disorders. People who have psoriasis or specific vitamin deficiencies may be prone to getting this condition, and there are methods that can be implemented, which may help to prevent them. It is beneficial to wash and dry the feet thoroughly, followed by applying a good moisturizer on them. Wearing shoes that have a back may also help to stop the onset of cracked heels. For mildly cracked heels, some patients use a pumice stone that can exfoliate the dead skin. Severely cracked heels often require the expert advice of a podiatrist. Some common contributors that lead to foot and ankle injuries in the realm of sports include not stretching properly or failing to warm up, wearing the incorrect footwear needed for your particular sport, as well as not taping or providing your feet and ankles with the needed support. When trying to diagnose if one has issues with their Achilles tendon, a podiatrist will commonly check for any pain, swelling, or discoloration around the heel or lower leg area. Achilles Tendonitis
There are many different causes of heel pain, including strains or sprains, tarsal tunnel syndrome, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, and heel bursitis. One of the most common causes of heel pain for children and teenagers specifically is Sever’s disease. Sever’s disease can develop due to overuse or repetitive microtrauma of the heel bone's growth plates. This condition is often seen among those who are active in sporting activities.
