STOP! AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN, EVEN WOMEN WITH KINKY HAIR OF ANY ETHNICITY! THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! I wouldn't even give this place one star, if I had the choice.
Some of these social media reviews were very misleading; it should have been a red flag that none of these reviewers were African-American. It is already extremely hard to find people who can actually do our hair, let alone in its natural state. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist assured me that my natural hair wouldn't be a problem. I was going in for a trim, hair color, and for it to be styled; so they sit me with Jamie. Apparently she is just the girl to see when it comes to ethnic hair types. Strike one: she started cutting my hair while it was still dry, which makes no sense what so ever. But, she said this is her cutting technique, and I decided to not criticize before seeing the end product. When she started coloring my hair, I started feeling a little more confident because the color was nice. Strike two: Right after blow drying my hair, she actually cut it again to make it even-- really though! I specifically said I wanted a trim not a full on haircut, and they quoted the price of $60 on the phone for my total.
Before she even started I asked her, "Do you know who to do African-American hair?" A question to which she responded, "Yeah I've done it a lot!" Now, strike three: She starts to flat iron my hair--huh... When I tell you she was afraid of the roots, I mean not none of those roots felt any of that heat. She clapped on and off, I still have coarse roots in the back; when it was done this woman had the nerve to say I owed $195. I'm like, "Excuse me?!" They told me I had gotten a color and a haircut, so it was extra. I told the woman, "I didn't even want a haircut; I came to get my ends clipped." Shoot, if you're going to charge someone with a haircut, at least attempt to shape me up in the back; I didn't ask your stylist to get scissor happy. On top of that, it doesn't even look like I went to a salon and my ends are fried! I was so mad, but I paid them and called later-- actually my sister called later.
They had offered to fix my hair for free, but all prices are final--SERIOUSLY! Why would I want to go back to a shop that just fried my ends and gave me a blunt haircut: I'd rather get my money back and go to someone who really KNOWS how to do African-American hair. They should have told me if my hair ends up messed up, I would be cheated out of my money. My hair was treated like a chemistry project. By the way, NO WHERE was there mention on the website, in the salon, or even by the receptionist Emma that, ALL SALES WERE FINAL! I did not hear this until I called to ask for when I could contact the shop to speak with a manager. I am currently waiting to hear back from the manager, who is conveniently on vacation right now.

The golden rule of any business is to honor your appointments. So imagine my surprise being turned away for my 5pm appointment having made it the previous afternoon, due to 'therapist availability issues'. Apparently attempts had been made to contact me during the day on my mobile (no missed calls....) and at my hotel (no call was taken, and no message was left...). No attempt or effort was made by Verve 360 to make the situation better, nor was a rescheduled appointment offered. If you want your appointment honored, avoid this place like the plague

I went in for simple bang trim. Just bangs. Nothing else. You wouldn't think that is too difficult. My hair WAS all one length halfway down my back with a 1 inch section of bangs. A very clean simple style. ZERO layers. Instead of parting out the bangs and trimming just those, DeAndre (who was actually very nice) started free styling with scissors, sliding them from from the top of my head through my hair. I didn't realize it until I dried my hair the next day and attempted to style it, but I now have bangs that are twice as thick as I had before and sections of hair that will take a year to grow back to the length it was before. There are wings on the side of my head. There are pieces of hair hanging at my cheekbones and pieces that are different lengths all over the place so its not even possible to use a curling iron. The irony? The bangs are still too long and hanging in my eyes. When someone comes to the salon for a bang trim, don't try to give them a new style. Listen to the customer. Look at the existing cut!! If there are no layers, ASK before putting them in. Obviously, if I wanted layers in my long hair, I would have said that when I scheduled the appointment. I feel so violated that DeAndre felt he could completely ignore my wishes and change my appearance. I left a very nice message for the salon to give them some feedback about this rogue hair hacker and have yet to receive the courtesy of a return call. LADIES BE WARNED. If DeAndre has scissors in his hand. Run.

Giving one start to this business is being extremely generous. I don't like to be a negative nelly; however I had no good dealing with these people. They were very friendly at first when I came in, It seemed very upscale and the decor was great. Upon further interaction I met one of the owners, Micah or..miciah?, possibly a used car salesman in his past life. Talk about a sleeze ball. Save your money and find a place that isn't preying on your check book and looks at you as a person not a dollar sign
And also on a side note, The staff at verve has been writing their own reviews as an outsider as per the "I would recommend Jeff or any other stylist" comment as nobody recommends stylists they haven't been to.
"Melanie" Im sorry you feel you had had such a horrible experience here at Verve. Its interesting that the other 1200 people we see monthly feel very differently. Actually many of our clients mention the stylist they love most when posting as you mentioned "Micah" in yours. As the owner it is pertinent to have conversations with our clients since owning a Wellness company to start with means caring about others. Im a bit confused since we don't have a MelanieA on our books this year anyway. If you only spent time waxing with us on a Saturday 6/4/11(which Micah doesnt work)that leads me to believe that you may be an employee that was fired aka (the only person Ive ever heard say negative nelly)because of unprofessional behavior. Better luck in the future dear.

You rarely have people write about their great services. I just went to Jeff at Verve 360, he did an awesome job with my cut/color. I had a nice time talking with him when I visited last Monday. I loved the location/atmosphere... and the prices were suprisngly reasonable for being an upscale, downtown salon. 5 star service!

I have been going to Verve for the last 5 months, since the new salon opened, getting my hair colored every 6 weeks by Dana Lacher, leaving in up to her what to do, every time we do my color a different way, leaving happy every time, this time she did totally new look for me, totally different look for me, I love it .

I'm new to Pittsburgh (as of May). I loved my stylist from back home and I have been looking for someone here in Pittsburgh that I would love just as much. I work at K&L Gates and one of my co-workers took a pilates class at Verve, she said they had just opened up a new salon too. I called to check out prices/what services they offer and I was referred to Jeff. He's a young guy, but very cool and stylish. He talked me into both highlights and lowlights, which was actually something new for me. I loved how my color turned out as well as the cut that went with it. I've been back twice since, everyone there is really professional and laid back. It's just such a nice place to come and relax after work. I'd suggest Jeff or any of the other stylists at Verve (they all appeared to do great work). The space is awesome! Online reviews tend to only get posted when someone has a bad experience, but I wanted to acknowledge my great experience!

I recently followed my hairstylist Alyssa to the Verve from the salon she had been working at. She has been doing my hair for as long as I can remember and I will never let anyone else touch it as long as I can help it! She does my highlights in the summer and color in the winter and always keeps me in style! She also colors and cuts my Mom's hair at the same time! This was my first time seeing her at the Verve and I absolutely love it!!!! EVERYONE is so sweet and the atmosphere is just so chill and relaxing which is a nice change of pace. And of course she sent me out looking fabulous as usual! (SHE DOES MY NAILS, FACIALS, AND MAKEUP TOO!!) I highly recommend her for all of your needs!! The salon is so cool, they really make everyone look and feel fabulous!!! If you're looking for something new and fresh, I say GO FOR IT!!!

Let me just say... that there is nothing Verve CAN'T do that ROCKS my world more than they already have! It's a one stop shop for all my beauty needs! I noticed the salon during their grand openning b/c i live in The Encore on 7th. To my surprise it was like no other salon i had been to in all of the downtown area... and i've been to them all! PLUS they carry BUMBLE & BUMBLE's entire product line... when i had been driving all the way out to Mt. Lebo to get my product fix in the past! I have now been going to Julie since then and have NEVER been this pleased with my hair! She rocks my world! But let me tell you... her schedule books and books up fast! When i need a last minute hair fix... Monique is my hair-do diva for nights out on the town- especially for hair extensions! Then when i am in for color- i get an xpress mani with Micaiah while my color sits... and let me tell you- she knows nails! Plus i love ZOYA nail polish! Long story short... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND VERVE SALON FOR ALL YOUR BEAUTY NEEDS!
