Typical greasy spoon restaurant and menu. It is like walking into a restaurant from the 60's. The food was okay, service was okay, about what you would expect.

Friendly Folks, Southern Dishes

Last week I was a tourist in Florida. I fear appearing like a Clark Griswold but being on vacation always carried that risk.

Especially as I love photography and a good tourist needs a camera to record the memories.

Returning to Tampa from Orlando I selected Plant City as a stop with the mission of exploring, geocaching and eating a late lunch. I far prefer exploring off the beaten path places to tourist traps.

This restaurant looked inviting even though the large neon OPEN sign wasnt illuminated.

We entered and were immediately greeted by the waitress.

Our 330PM visit found the place empty as we were in between lunch and dinner rushes. That didn't last long as several more people soon arrived.

I chose the beef tips with rutabagas, breaded okra and salad bar. The tips were tender, the okra tasty and the salad bar well stocked, fresh and clean. The rutabagas were a different story as I am pretty sure I have never had them before. I was asked if I wanted "hot sauce" for them. I like saucy hot things and eagerly agreed. I was surprised to see that the sauce was a clear liquid surrounding actual hot peppers. It added a very distinctive zing to the veggie.

I washed all this good grub down with a jumbo unsweetened tea (which was refilled for me as well). Mmmm.

The rest of my family also enjoyed their meals (BLTs x 3) although the WELL buttered toast was a shocker to folks who usually eat their BLT toast dry.

Snellgrove's has a huge glass window that faces the town and it was relaxing to sit inside and watch the world going by.

Plant City is a place that I want to return to and explore some more. When I do I will definitely come back to this restaurant.
