Dental Examination
X-rays
Radiographs (x-rays) are a vital and necessary part of your child’s dental diagnostic process. Without them, certain conditions can and will be missed. For example, radiographs may be needed to survey erupting teeth, diagnose bone diseases, evaluate the results of an injury, plan orthodontic treatment, and diagnose cavities between teeth. Radiographs allow dentists to diagnose and treat health conditions that cannot be detected during a clinical examination. If dental problems are found and treated early, dental care is more comfortable for your child and more affordable for you. There is very little risk in dental x-rays. With contemporary safeguards, the amount of radiation received in the dental office is extremely low. Lead aprons and digital x-rays are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation.

Teeth Cleaning
Dental hygienists traditionally perform scaling by hand. However, new and advanced technology has lead to more modern methods such as electric scalers. This sophisticated tool allows dental cleanings to be performed more efficiently and in less time. To achieve best results, both electric and manual scaling methods are combined for dental cleanings.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
Sealants are clear or shaded plastic that fill in and cover the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. Sealants shut out food particles that can get caught in the teeth and cause cavities. Applying sealants is fast and comfortable and can be effective for many years.

Crowns
Find the tooth. Hold the tooth by the crown (the part of the tooth you see in the mouth). Do not hold the tooth by the root. Briefly rinse the tooth gently with cool, slow running water only. Do not scrub the tooth or use soap. Just use water. Put the tooth back in the socket. If you cannot do this, place the tooth in a cup of milk. Call our office immediately. If after hours and we have not called you back within 5 minutes,go to the emergency room. This tooth must be treated immediately.

Root Canal Treatment
Fillings are done to remove decay, and replace the affected tooth structure. It is called a filling because new a material fills hole that decay left. Caught early enough, cavities can be treated easily and painlessly. If not treated decay can lead to tooth pain and/or infection, and the tooth would need root canal treatment or extraction.

Deep Cleaning
Root planing involves inserting a pointed dental tool called scalers into the gym pockets to clean plaque buildup. Depending on the degree o difficulty, root planning may take several appointments and a local anesthesia may be used to prevent pain.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Tooth Extractions
For a simple extraction, we will first apply a local anesthetic to prevent pain and discomfort. The tooth will be loosened with a tool called an elevator and then removed with dental forceps. Once the procedure is complete, the area may be closed with one or two stitches.

Braces
We generally recommend scheduling checkups every six months. Depending on the circumstance, for example a child with braces, we may recommend more frequent visits.
