Dr. Frederick N. Fedorchak is a board-certified podiatric surgeon located in Portage, IN, for the past 28 years and serving the surrounding areas of Porter, Lake, and La Porte counties. Dr. Fedorchak is a 1983 graduate of the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. Graduating with honors, Dr. Fedorchak went on to postgraduate training at the University of Chicago Department of Orthopedics as well as the Osteopathic Hospital of South Bend, IN. Dr. Fedorchak stresses patient understanding of the inherent biomechanical cause of the foot or ankle problem, always stressing conservative non-surgical bomechanical alignment of the pathology at first. Sometimes, however, surgery does become necessary to alleviate the severity of the foot pain. Dr. Fedorchak is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery and enjoys full surgical staff privileges at three local hospitals and two surgery centers. Some of the more common foot and ankle problems treated in Dr Fedorchaks' office are the following; • Heel spurs/plantar fasciitis • Painful neuromas • Ankle and foot fractures • Flat feet in children and adults • Bunions • Hammertoes • Ingrown nails • Verruca plantaris (warts) • Orthopedics of the lower extremity • Orthotics Dr. Fedorchak is a retired Faculty member of Indiana University School of Medicine, having published three articles on Physiology during his tenure there. He was the first podiatric surgeon in the area to be trained in the Swiss (AO) techniques of bone healing for foot surgery, being well versed in the use of plates and screws. He received his initial surgical training at the University of Chicago Department of Orthopedics. In addition to his private practice in Portage, Dr. Fedorchak enjoys surgical privileges at hospitals and surgery centers in Merrillville, Hobart, and Crown Point.
