X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
We are able to complete dental cleanings for both parents and children usually within an hour and offer SATURDAY APPOINTMENTS for the family's convenience. The saltwater aquarium fascinates children and adults in the reception. We have toys for children to play with while accompanied by an adult, as well as a series of children's magazine subscriptions and coloring books. And of course, a prize drawer to choose from after a successful dental visit!
Dental Sealants
Smiles on Sandy believes that no dentistry is the best dentistry. We strive to prevent or minimize the amount of treatment necessary to restore health. We do this through placing protective SEALANTS. We utilize the DIAGNODENT laser cavity detection device. This has enabled us to find and treat cavities while they are far too small to be seen with X-rays or the naked eye. Each patient's cavity and periodontal disease risk is assessed and a specific prevention plan is established.

Next-door neighbors raved about this place. I can see why after two years of dental care. The dentists are both super gentle, as are the hygienists. They are the friendliest, most competent dental clinic I've ever been to. In this day and age of poorer quality, this is one sterling exception. (And my front teeth veneers are gorgeous!).
Crowns
The new METAL FREE CROWNS eliminate the ugly black line you may have seen next to the gum line on older crowns. INLAYS and ONLAYS, tooth-colored restorations, are used in place of silver fillings on the chewing surfaces of back teeth.

Root Canal Treatment
While you're in the chair our team will monitor your vital signs such as blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation. You'll be thoroughly relaxed and won't feel a thing. Best of all, we can accomplish most of your dentistry at one time so you won't have to come back several times! You can choose Sedation Dentistry for everything from simple procedures such as fillings, to complicated root canals, extractions or any other treatment you may need.

Deep Cleaning
The public generally is familiar with dental caries or "cavities" and their usual treatment of restorations or "fillings". However, fewer people have heard of PERIODONTAL DISEASE. Periodontal disease is the inflammation of the gums and bone holding the teeth in, due to bacteria living beneath the gums. This is usually a painless disease until the very late stages where teeth are nearly hopeless. If left untreated, periodontal disease will cause the bone to resorb or disappear, the teeth will become loose and fall out, teeth may abscess, and halitosis or foul-smelling breath may occur. Flossing is the primary way to prevent periodontal disease and maintain a healthy mouth. The treatment for periodontal disease is simply to remove the bacteria. This is accomplished through " DEEP CLEANING " or " SCALING AND ROOT PLANING ". In this procedure, the gums and teeth are numbed with anesthetic and the bacteria living on the teeth beneath the gums are removed. The gums then have an opportunity to reattach to the tooth in a healthy way in the absence of bacteria, giving the firm, pink healthy appearance we are working for. There are certain major risk factors for periodontal disease, including smoking, age, diabetes, family history of perio disease, among others.

Dental Implants
Jon M. Daby D.D.S. graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2003. After graduating he received further advanced training in all dental specialties by completing an optional one year hospital residency program in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Jon has continued to receive advanced postdoc training in implants, root canal treatment, sedation, and cosmetic dentistry, among other specialties through many hours of continuing education. He moved to Oregon in 2004 and has owned Smiles on Sandy since 2005.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Brittney joined our Smiles on Sandy family in 2018 as an extern from Concorde college. Since joining our team, Brittney has earned her expanded function dental assistant licensing. You could say dental assisting runs in her blood, her mother is a dental assistant as well. If you ask her, she will tell you she loves being a dental assistant because she enjoys being able to perform a variety of procedures that benefit our patients. Her favorite procedures being oral surgery. In her free time, you will find Brittney spending time with her significant other, Bradley, and their cat Nug. She also enjoys attending concerts, camping, and enjoying all the beautiful nature Oregon has to offer.
Tooth Extractions
Dr. Daby is an experienced surgeon who routinely removes impacted wisdom teeth, as well as other non-restorable teeth. Oral Conscious sedation or Nitrous Oxide Sedation are available to apprehensive patients. SURGICAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT is also offered. A DENTAL IMPLANT is a titanium post that is placed into the bone where teeth have been lost, giving a new anchor to place a denture or crown onto. With dental implants, a previously poor fitting denture or partial can have a solid attachment to snap onto, giving it a whole new feel and the ability to chew and talk. IMPLANT DENTISTRY is a relatively new to most people, despite having decades of clinical history in Europe and the United States. The surgery itself, although it sounds traumatic, is surprisingly easy and patients rarely have the discomfort associated with even a simple tooth extraction. Usually only ibuprofen or tylenol are necessary to control post-op pain, as opposed to tooth extraction which can sometimes require more potent pain relievers.

Orthodontics
Brett L. Daby DDS graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2009. He pursued further dental education with a residency program at the VA Medical Center in Portland, OR before entering private practice. He has continued to receive advanced training in cosmetic dentistry, sedation, dental implants, orthodontics, and more through hundreds of hours of continuing education.
