An honest review and recap of events Champion Chevrolet.
Yesterday morning, I woke up hopped online and went to check on Champion's website for a particular car we were looking at. It was still listed so I called the dealership and left a message on the voice mail. I was called a short time later by a salesman named James.
I told James that we were interested in this particular car, he asked me to hold on and checked on the car. He then said the car was still there. I asked him how I would go about finding out the details of what would be involved in purchasing this car since I lived almost 300 miles away and wanted to make sure everything would work before travelling that far. He directed me to fill out the application online and said he would call me back once he got it.
Not too long later, he called me back and told me that I would qualify for the car. I then asked for details and explained to him what I in order to purchase the car. I stated in the application and on the phone that I wasn't putting anything down and that I needed to trade in my car. I also stated that I wanted payments no more that $400 a month and an interest rate no higher than 10% and preferred lower than that. James again said he would check on things and give me a call back.
He called me back and stated that there should be no problem meeting everything I wanted. I was told my payment would be under $400 a month and should have an interest rate of around 8% with nothing down and based on my trade in being in good condition (more on that later).
I got the car ready and called James again to inform that we would be on the way, he said great everything would be ready when I got there. Half way there, he even called to get some more needed information.
Upon arrival at the dealership, I called James who told me that he had to leave and the Ruben would be helping me. I tracked down Ruben and was immediately told that the car we came to purchase was no longer there and had been sold to a Casino but that there were other (more expensive) cars we could look at.
We took one for a test drive and I decided that we might as well see how things looked with that car. Upon sitting down I was told that they were expecting $5,000 down and had a payment just shy of $700 a month!!!
At this point I started to get upset. I was promised a car that wasn't there, I was promised a payment that they couldn't meet, and I was promised zero down and they wanted way more than that. I told them no, I wouldn't be doing that.
At this point, I realized that without even looking at my trade in, they were only offering me $10,000 for my car when the low trade in value was well over that. I argued that and was told that they were going off of auction value. What's that? Its an amazing number that you, the consumer can not verify.
After a lot of back and fourth and the sales manager coming out, they decided to "help me out" and offered me a payment of $499 a month with a $2,000 down payment $10,500 for my car and was told I should be happy with that and that it was more than fair.
Needless to say, I left and will not ever return to this dealership again. I am also contacting Chevrolet/GM directly to file complaint.

After all the horror stories I had heard about buying a car from a dealership, I was prepared for the worst! My time at Freeway Honda could not have been further from that. EVERYONE I had any contact with from the minute I arrived was polite, helpful and seemed genuinely interested in making sure I received exceptional service. My experience was just lovely. The Freeway team was able to find a car I could afford and also like the appearance of - no small feat considering my current circumstances!!

Everyone was easy to get along with. Very pleasant. We own another GM product so we got a discount good enough we didn't bother to haggle. Very low key and satisfying experience.
