Dental Examination
A comprehensive examination is performed to help our dental team visualize any possible oral concerns our patients may have. Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums, and check for any signs of disease or decay. During this examination, we will also examine your neck and throat. X-rays may be used so we can detect any issues not immediately evident.
X-rays
At South Meadows Dental & Orthodontics, we use digital x-rays which have several advantages over traditional film-based X-rays. Digital x-rays allow us to take x-rays with 1/5 of the radiation that you would receive from traditional dental x-rays. The risk of exposure to excess radiation is eliminated. Large, on-screen x-rays make patient communication more effective, allowing us to discuss your dental health quickly and accurately.
Oral Cancer Screening
Typically, a dental hygienist performs your teeth cleaning. They will tailor the cleaning to fit each patients’ unique needs and tooth structure. The cleaning begins with an oral examination, head and neck examination, and cancer screening. This dental exam is performed to evaluate your teeth, gum tissue, and overall oral health. After this, the cleaning begins.

Teeth Cleaning
During your regular dental cleaning appointment, our dental team will perform a thorough analysis of your teeth, gums, and oral health. During this examination, they will perform multiple screenings and evaluations to see if there are signs of disease, decay, or other concerns.
Fluoride Treatment
Dental Sealants
One of the best ways for parents to make sure their kid’s teeth are protected is with dental sealants. We offer dental sealants as a preventative option to help our younger patients avoid cavities. Dental sealants are a great way to make sure bacteria stay out of the most vulnerable places in our teeth.
Space Maintainers
Fixed Space Maintainers: These are used to help keep space open for a permanent tooth to grow in if a baby tooth is lost prematurely.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Composite resins provide durability while blending in with your natural teeth. To fill the teeth, the tooth needs to be clean and dry. Composite fillings help to repair decay, fractures, and larger fillings. These are bonded to the tooth with adhesive, which makes for a conservative repair. Much like natural teeth, the composite fillings can become stained or discolored over time. It’s very important to clean them and treat them like real teeth.
Veneers
Placement of veneers is completed within two appointments. During your first appointment, your teeth will be prepared to allow for the fabrication of porcelain veneers. An impression of your teeth will be taken. This impression will be sent to a dental lab where your custom-fitted veneers can be created. Your dentist will use a shade guide to help pick the correct color for your veneer so that you get the most natural look. We will sometimes also set up a custom shade appointment with our lab to allow the lab technician to see your teeth first-hand and discuss your goals.
Crowns
When a filling isn’t a suitable treatment option for restoring the function or appearance of a tooth, a crown may be a better option for a patient. Crowns restore damaged or decayed teeth as well as cracked, broken, or weakened teeth to provide a strong foundation and a normal appearance. With options for porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, you can be sure that wherever in the mouth your crown is, people won’t notice the difference.
Bridges
Dental bridges are a fixed restoration created to replace a missing tooth. Bridges help restore functionality to the mouth and jaw, as well as serving a cosmetic function by restoring your full smile. By using dental bridges to replace a missing tooth (or teeth), this can prevent your teeth and jaw from shifting to compensate for the gap. It will also provide underlying support to lips, cheeks, and muscles. Bridges can be made from either gold, porcelain, metal, or all ceramic material. The ceramic option is made to look natural because the color will match your natural teeth for a hidden fix.
Dental Bonding
Cosmetic bonding offers many advantages over similar methods. This treatment can be prepared and performed in just one office visit. This approach is a fairly simple one. There is often little preparation needed to undergo cosmetic bonding. Your dentist will use a shade guide to make sure that the resin used will match your natural teeth. Your dentist will prepare the surface of the tooth with a conditioning etch, which helps the bonding composite adhere to the tooth. The composite is applied to the tooth and smoothed out for the desired shape. Then, an ultraviolet light is used to harden the material. After this process, your dentist will mold the material to the desired shape and polish it to match the tooth. This treatment can be completed in a single visit and provides our patients with natural, stunning results.

Root Canal Treatment
This restorative option helps to cover teeth that are badly damaged from decay, breakage, and cracks, or are weakened by a root canal. A crown is a restoration that covers the entire chewing surface of the tooth, helping restore it back to the original size and shape. Dental crowns can not only restore the look of the tooth, but also help to strengthen it in order to help prevent more damage. Crowns are a very versatile option for restoration of weak teeth. They are natural-looking so they can blend in with the rest of your teeth for inconspicuous improvement.

Deep Cleaning
Gum disease can be easily treated if caught in the early stage (gingivitis). By keeping regular dental appointments with your dentist at South Meadows Dental & Orthodontics, we can be sure to remove any plaque and clean the teeth so that they are free from plaque and tartar. If the gum disease is more severe, then scaling and root planning can be performed to treat the diseased areas.

Dentures
Getting dental implants involves multiple visits to the dentist. The initial visit is an evaluation to ensure there is enough quality bone to support the implant. Often, a 3D cone-beam image is made which allows your dentist to make sure bone quality is good and there are no anatomical structures in the way of the implant. If the site is adequate, there are several steps followed to ensure a successful restoration. First, the site for the implants has to be prepared. During a surgical procedure, the bone structure under the gum tissue will be exposed and prepared so the implant can be placed there. The implant is placed, and the gum tissue is closed using sutures. After this surgery, your gums and bone will need time to heal. The healing process takes anywhere from three to six months. This is so that the implant can become a part of the jaw. During this time, many patients may use temporary crowns or transitional partial dentures to fill in the gap. Once the tissue has healed, the crown will be attached. The crown is custom-made through a dental lab to be the exact shape and color of your natural tooth so that it blends in. This process is all done over a variety of appointments but, in the end, you will have a permanent solution that looks natural and beautiful.

Dental Implants
There is one main type of implant used that is considered safe by the American Dental Association. These are Endosteal implants. These implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone, replacing the missing tooth root. After the gum tissue has healed, a second procedure is performed to connect a post to the implant. Then an artificial tooth is attached to the post. This can be done individually or with a bridge.

During scaling and root planning, our highly-skilled dental hygienists will use an ultrasonic scaling device to remove any plaque, tartar, or food buildup both on the teeth and below the gum line. Then, they will scale the tooth and root to make the surface smooth and free of disease. If you are experiencing severe periodontitis, then surgery and bone grafting may be needed to repair the damage.
