The Sheriff's Office is governed by the City of Roanoke in Virginia. It operates a 330-plus-bed jail that features a segregation unit, library, dormitory, and indoor and outdoor recreational areas. The Sheriff's Office manages a services division that administers inmate programs. It also maintains jail and court services divisions. The office employs a work force of more than 240 people. It additionally hosts various golf tournaments for charitable purposes.
