Established in 1872, the Rockford Public Library is a municipal library that has six facilities, including the main library and five branch libraries. The library, located in Rockford, Ill., offers more than 20 word processing and Internet-enabled computers and hosts a collection of books, including information on tapes, magazines, CDs, DVDs, videos and software. It subscribes to various databases that assist in research on topics related to medical sciences, current events and history. The Rockford Public Library s adult and youth services departments host a range of programs for children, families and adults, including book discussion groups, author visits, story times, workshops and musical entertainment events. The library s Local History and Genealogy Room provides materials on genealogy and Rockford area research. It operates the Rockford Public Library Foundation, which provides financial assistance to support the library and community. The library has received the Heart of Rockford Award for Best Festival by the River District Association for its Summer Reading Club.
