Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy (MDT), better known as the McKenzie Method is a system of assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Receiving this Diploma (as R. Christopher Bouton did in 1999) is the highest level of achievement in the McKenzie Institute's Educational Program. The McKenzie Method emphasizes proper clinical diagnosis of a musculosketal problem and education of patients on how to "self treat" and prevent or minimize future recurrences of the same problem. It has been repeatedly shown in scientific literature to be an effective and reliable method for assessment and treatment of spinal and other musculosletal disorders without extensive tests such as an MRI being necessary.
