General Info
Maryvale was founded by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in 1856 as The Los Angeles Orphan Asylum. The original site was in Los Angeles at Macy and Alameda where Union Station now stands. The second location for the orphanage was at Boyle Heights from 1890 to 1953. When the agency moved to its present site, the name was changed to Maryvale. Situated on 14 park-like acres, the present facilities provide residential treatment services for at-risk six to 18-year-old girls who are placed there by the court. The Maryvale program consists of mental health services, an on-site special education school, recreational therapy, aftercare services and a foster family program. In addition, Maryvale operates two day care centers in Rosemead and Duarte, Calif., and other community outreach programs. The Rosemead center serves children aged nine months through four years and provides kindergarten class.
