Oral Cancer Screening
Did you know that approximately 36,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year, according to statistics from the American Cancer Society? Unfortunately, nearly 7,000 of them will die from the disease. Oral cancer has a higher death rate because itâ€™s often not caught until it has spread elsewhere in the body. Vigilance on the patientâ€™s part is a significant factor in achieving a positive outcome after an oral cancer diagnosis. If youâ€™re able to spot concerning symptoms early, the disease will respond better to treatment, and it will be less likely to metastasize. Our oral surgeons at Oral Surgery Associates of North Texas provide various oral cancer screening services, which may include visual examinations, biopsies, and more to detect oral cancer early enough for our patients to benefit from treatment.

Crowns
Our oral surgeons place dental implants in a brief outpatient procedure that is completed in a matter of hours. Earlier dental implants required a return visit approximately six months after implant placement to uncover the implants then place the prosthetic, but advances in the devices have led to single-stage dental implants, which can be loaded with crowns in a matter of weeks.
Bridges

Dentures
A small amount of bleeding is to be expected following the operation. If bleeding occurs, place a gauze pad directly over the bleeding socket and apply biting pressure for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, a moist tea bag can be used for 30 minutes. If bleeding occurs, avoid hot liquids, exercise, and elevate the head. If bleeding persists, call our office immediately. Do not remove immediate denture unless the bleeding is severe. Expect some oozing around the side of the denture.

Jaw Surgery
When someone deals with malocclusions, their upper and lower jaws develop at different rates. An injury or congenital defect can usually be the cause of these issues arising in the first place. They sometimes can be addressed by utilizing orthodontic appliances, especially for younger children whose jaws are not quite fully developed. Other patients will need to undergo orthognathic surgery, which is a corrective procedure to reposition the misaligned jaws.
Maxillofacial Surgery
He is currently an attending physician at Forest Park Medical Center and previously a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Dentistry. He is licensed in Texas in both dentistry and medicine. Dr. Finn is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.
Tooth Extractions
After tooth extraction, itâ€™s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. Thatâ€™s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times.
