Dental Care

Vaccination
For the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date. Even though we make every effort to make our patients feel comfortable during visits, they may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings and other pets. This is one of the reasons we ask you to restrain your pet. We recommend that animals be placed on a leash or in pet carriers before entering the waiting room.
Behavioral Counseling
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
Nutritional Counseling
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
Comprehensive Examination
We recommend regular wellness exams for similar reasons your physician and dentist do - if we can detect a problem in its early stages, it is more likely to be treated and resolved with less expense, less difficulty, and better success.

At this visit your pet may undergo routine tests for heartworms, tick born diseases, or intestinal parasites. They may also get their wellness screening tests run.
Pain Management
Anything that causes pain in people can be expected to cause pain in animals. Pets may not show the same symptoms of pain as people do; they usually don't whine or cry, but you can be sure they feel it. Pain medications needed will depend on the surgery performed. Major procedures require more pain relief than things like minor lacerations.

We offer radiograph screens for pets at risk of heart disease, tumors, or other conditions and can perform x-rays for breeding animals for the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). We also offer radiographs, reviewed by a board certified radiologist, for sick or injured pets when x-rays may help us identify a problem under the surface.
Kidney Disease Treatment
In addition to an examination, your pet should have blood and urine screening tests run every 6 to 12 months. Certain diseases are easily managed if caught early, such as kidney disease or hormone imbalances. If we wait until your pet has symptoms of the disease to diagnose it, we likely will miss our opportunity to halt the progression.

Spaying and Neutering
Spaying or neutering can be done after 4 months of age, but we are happy to discuss the best time to spay or neuter your pet. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen and EKG is required prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

We have a wide range of tests available in-hospital, including heartworm and tick born disease screening, feline aids and leukemia screening, complete blood cell count, blood chemistry analysis, electrolytes, urinalysis, coagulation, and more.
