Digital x-rays are the newest technology used in dentistry to take and archive dental x-rays. Digital x-rays significantly reduce the amount of radiation as compared to traditional dental x-rays. This technique captures a digital picture of teeth with their supporting bone structures and stores the images on a computer in our dental office. You and Dr. Habas will be able to instantly view your x-rays and enlarge the image to aid in the identification of dental problems and to gauge your dental health. Dr. Habas will use this information to create an individualized treatment plan.

Teeth Cleaning
Please alert our office if you have a medical conditionthat may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.) or require medication prior to dental cleanings (i.e., antibiotics, for pre-med.)

Your tooth is more prone to fracture immediately after an endodontic treatment. You should chew on the other side until your restorative dentist has placed a core build-up and a protective restoration, usually a dental crown. If your tooth’s strength is seriously compromised, your endodontist or restorative dentist may place a post and core build-up inside the tooth. Your restorative dentist and endodontist will determine the appropriate restoration to best protect your tooth.

Root Canal Treatment
Advances in the art and science of endodontics have facilitated better understanding of disease processes and have led to development of treatment modalities aimed at restoring health to the pulp and periradicular tissues. Technological discoveries in instruments and materials have made it possible to achieve treatment objectives that once were considered unattainable.
Apicoectomy
While an apicoectomy is considered a surgical procedure, discomfort is usually minimal. Dr. Habas will remove stitches 2 to 7 days after the procedure, and swelling and soreness usually diminish after two weeks. To aid in a quick recovery time, try not to irritate the affected area by eating crunchy foods, brushing too hard, or smoking. Relax and avoid contact sports as well while your mouth is healing. Finally, in order to ensure that your tooth remains healthy, maintain good oral hygiene with daily brushing and flossing, along with regular dental check-ups.

Dental Implants
There are some cases, however, where the tooth cannot be saved. In this unique case, Dr. Habas is qualified to offer the option of removal and replacement with a dental implant.

Dr. Brian Habas grew up in Plainfield, IL. He graduated Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville's School of Dental Medicine in 2001. He practiced general dentistry for six years, both in the Chicago suburbs and near Atlanta, GA.
