In the past, this office was quite hectic due to the amount of patients that were scheduled. But,Dr Wagenknecht doesn't work with Barc anymore,so the patient load has been reduced. Even when time was limited,I was always happy with the service provided. He is very quick and efficient with spay and neuter. I've never had a large aftercare bill following a surgery he's performed. The animals actually came from the office happy and active as if nothing had occurred, and I would have to contain them to keep them from playing too much. In the middle of a rushed morning,he took the time to speak with me directly on the phone and apologize for a misunderstanding that occurred with the front office. He also briefly spoke with me in person to address concerns I had about anesthesia, even though it was bustling another morning. He truly wants you to do right by your pet and will work with you to assist in costs to provide the service your pet needs. I don't know about the situations concerning the bad reviews, but I am pleased with his experience. An affordable vet that can perform delicate surgery is hard to come by. I suggest having your conversation planned if you are concerned about not having enough time to speak. I don't think he's rude at all. Perhaps he's just short with nonsense.

Terrible experience! understaffed, hectic, ANYTHING but friendly, and the vet has 0 bedside manner. Prices are low but NOT WORTH IT.

Provided by SuperpagesI just moved to the city and needed a vet that would make a house call to euthanize my very old, sick and beloved dog. Wagenknecht was so good to us and so sweet. My Mary didn't even bother to get alarmed and she passed away blissfully. He explained everything to me before he did it, we had several phone conversations before he even came over and he worked us into his busy schedule even though he had a full day of spaying and neutering ahead of him. He apparently volunteers much of his time and effort towards helping the locals with the TNR (trap, neuter, release) cat colonies around here. He was good to us and I think he's good for the animal community in general. His assistants were really nice on the phone too.

Provided by SuperpagesI've taken my pets to Dr. Phillip Wagenknecht, the veterinarian at St. Louis Pet Clinic on Grand, since we moved to this neighborhood in 2001. We have always found him to be professional, competent, and compassionate, and his staff helpful and competent as well. I also use this clinic in for TNR work with feral cats. I cannot recommend this team highly enough.

We took our dog here when I first adopted because the rescue used this vet. It was not a good experience. He did nothing but try to push purina dog food on us (we use blue buffalo), would not answer any of my questions about diet and nutrition, and spoke the entire time to my husband, rather than answering my questions directly (women will recognize this type). The exam itself was quick and rushed. He asked me five times if our dog is spayed, in spite of having the paperwork in front of him. Our dog comes from a trauma situation and he was very rough in handling her, making sudden gestures around her face and head. Our dog's problem was not properly diagnosed or explained and we had to take her elsewhere. The facilities were less than spectacular. I will say that, aside from the vet, the staff was very nice. I understand that this vet is cheap and that is a draw for myself and many other people, but I wouldn't take an animal I hated to this clinic, much less a beloved family pet.

We have gone to Dr. Wagenknecht for over 20 years and have NEVER had a negative experience with him or his staff. He has taken care of every dog we have ever had. He's gotten them through some rough probelms and gotten us through also. He is very upfront and honest with you but he also sincerely cares about the animals and how they are being cared for. His staff is as caring as he is. His appointments are always on time unless an emergency comes in. Which is understandable to me since I have been that emergency more than once. I really love the way Doc cares about the welfare of the animals and making sure they are fed and taken care of properly. Very caring and will be our vet until he retires.
I have read the negative revies in this column and I find them hard to imagine. I have been with him for over 20 years and NEVER had an experience anywhere close to what they say happened to them.
They are GREAT at the St Louis Pet Clinic. And they just moved into a bigger more convenient location.

Provided by SuperpagesI learned this "vet" has his staff perform spays so he doens't have to work. If you need a real DVM, this IS NOT the vet for you

Provided by Superpagesi am not sure i can recomend this vet because i did not get to meet him.. i was in search of a new vet since we moved here .. he was recommended to me by a friend that now lives in Florida .. first off i was overly questioned about my pups example was i selling them for x mass and got a big lecturer from a brash kinda dried up gal that wanted to know all my business .. i mentioned that my family does resue work and she proceeded to fire questions at me.. well that turned me off right there .. and number two i never did get to meet the vet and i was hoping to start a repore w/a new vet .. .. but a very nice lady named jt did do my animal shots and she was sweet .. so i still am in search of a new vet

I have taken my pets to the St. Louis Pet Clinic since it opened. They are very caring there. Dr. Wagenknecht really takes the time to listen to what is going on with my pet. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
