Vanessa L. Lauzon, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist and board-certified family medicine physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized adults with mental health conditions. In the inpatient setting, she treats depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, substance use disorders, neurocognitive disorders, co-morbid medical and psychiatric issues, and issues related to grief and coping in patients with serious medical issues.Her clinical practice also includes performing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to treat severe depression, mania and psychosis. As an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Lauzon supervises and teaches medical students and residents. In 2016, she was awarded the Department of Psychiatrys Clinician SPOT Award for Outstanding Contributions, and also an Outstanding Faculty Teacher Award at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2014, she was medical director of behavioral health services and a family physician at a 242-bed community hospital in Ventura, Calif.Dr. Lauzon completed a fellowship in community psychiatry and a combined residency in psychiatry and family medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, focusing on care for homeless, indigent and underserved populations at St. Vincent de Paul Villages outpatient clinic. She earned her medical degree from the University of Southern Californias Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Lauzon is board certified in psychiatry and family medicine.
