Cristina attended Cabrillo College to complete an associate degree in science and medical assistant certificate. She worked three years as a Medical Assistant lead in Santa Cruz County. In 2021, Cristina graduated from Charles R. Drew University in Los Angeles, CA, earning her Masters of Health Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies. Cristina worked as a Physician assistant in family practice in Santa Cruz and Watsonville before joining the SAMB team.

Dr. Waddle completed his undergraduate training at Pomona College and entered the University of Arizona College of Health Professions as a merit scholar, graduating with honors. He worked for the US Indian Health Services as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at the University of California, Davis and his surgical residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Waddle has broad surgical experience and specializes in minimally invasive surgery including advanced laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, endoscopy and DaVinci robotic surgery. He has practiced in Santa Cruz since 2002.

We offer a range of traditional and state-of-the-art treatment modalities depending on the treatment plan designed specifically for you by our board-certified physicians. Dr. Santillano completed her undergraduate training at Penn State University and pre-medical studies at Harvard University. She entered Temple University School of Medicine after serving in the US Peace Corps, where she volunteered as a Health Educator in Ecuador, South America. She completed her surgical internship and residency at Temple University Hospital in her hometown of Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Santillano has broad surgical experience and specializes in minimally invasive surgery including advanced laparoscopy and DaVinci robotic surgery. She is an expert in diseases of the breast, performing surgery for both benign and cancerous lesions. Dr. Santillano is fluent in Spanish, se habla español. She joined the Surgical Associates of Monterey Bay in 2014.

Her prodigious educational background started at UC Berkeley as an undergraduate. She then continued her extensive schooling, becoming the recipient of two Master's degrees, one in Applied Anatomy from Case Western Reserve University and another in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard's School of Public Health. During this time, she was also an esteemed Harvard-Longwood Research Fellow in the vascular surgery laboratory of Dr. Marc Schermerhorn. Her general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship were both completed at Beth Israel Deaconess, a world class teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston.

All our surgeons are board-certified and licensed to practice General Surgery and Vascular Surgery (Dr. Lo) by the Medical Board of California. Our scope of practice is broad and the surgeries below are only a sample of some common procedures that we perform. Many general surgery procedures are performed with small 5-10 mm incisions known as laparoscopic surgery. Endovascular surgery procedures are performed with small incisions also. Some procedures are performed as single site surgery through a 3-4 cm incision, and others are performed using the DaVinci robot.

Ulcer
Skin ulcers may develop when the valves of perforating veins fail, resulting in extremely high venous pressures close to the skin. This causes decreased local blood supply to the skin, resulting in skin breakdown and a non-healing ulcer. These ulcers may be treated by sclerosing (injecting the vein with a medicine to cause its collapse) or ligating the perforating vein. Often, closing the main trunk of the saphenous vein will allow ulcers to heal.
