Knowing each and every one of the staff members personally. I can't express more genuinely the level of commitment to the veterinary profession and outpouring of compassion that the people who work for MVMC share every single day. I have nothing but gratitude for their work.

Yes they are pricey - have you seen their overhead. But that said - we have received fair and good service from the business re: other pets. Not this time. Maybe it is staff. But we left our cat there thinking we were getting one course of treatment and instead the ER staff followed a different path that was not on the estimate and not as was agreed. We have pet insurance but the staff did not want to provide us with the medical records and notes that I need to file the insurance. We had to get our cat without getting the treatment we thought we were getting as the bill was getting out of hand. Even with insurance - we still have to pay the bill and get reimbursed. Sadly I have to recommend you find the other animal hospital in Portland if you need a high level of care that your local vet cannot provide. If you do choose to use this clinic, be advised that you should be vigilante everyday to make sure they are providing the care that you contracted for.

One of the best veterinary hospitals, I have ever stepped foot in. Tremendously caring and supportive group of people. There is nothing this place can't handle as far as medical treatment goes.

Bring your wallet and leave your brain home. Took my 2 dogs who had been throwing up and having diarrhea. They came up with $900 worth of blood work. I requested they check a fecal sample as they had a history of giardia and the symptoms were similar. They informed me they had no equipment to test fecal matter and had to send it out! I was devastated as this was only the preliminary test and was informed that further testing would be necessary as well as treatment and hospitalization for at least one of them. Sine the dogs are litter mates and had identical symptoms I asked if they could do the work up on one and treat both. They refused to do this as well. Shocked, I told them I would have to put these beautiful creatures down as there was no way I could afford several thousand dollars. In the end they gave them IVs and medication injection to keep them going till I get to my vet today. $523 and the discharge paperwork states "refused recommended treatment due to finances".
Sadly, giving no star is not an option.
If you go here, wear a chastity belt.

Impressed with Dr Wagners thorough, gentle care for our dog. She spent a considerable amount of time with us going over our options with no pressure. Greatly appreciated the spacious clean facility and 24 hour service. We are blessed as a community to have this fine veterinary in service in Southern Maine!

I had to visit Scarborough ER vet last month with my darling cat,i called first and asked the secretary I believe her name was Lynne if there was anything I needed to know before coming she replied no just bring her in...So i did..After getting there i filled out paper work waited a short time them my cat was seen, after the Doctor came in briefly she left Lynne came back into the room with the estimate of the cost and explained to me if i didn't have all the money they could not help(you would think that when i called that would be a need to know),so i said thank you and scooped up my cat to leave (talking about it longer would not have made the money appear magically) She followed me out asking if i was leaving,i replied yes i am tired it is late and i don t have the money, she then very loudly told the Doctor i was leaving because i was tired, NOT TRUE !! I then stuck my head back in the door and said NO, i am tired but i am leaving because i do not have the money!! She later wrote a statement to my Veterinarian saying i denied their services at the hospital,i was shocked at this statement due to the fact i didn't deny anything,i was denied service because i didn't have the money, which i understood 100% ..I have since called Niel and was reassured that the false statement she wrote would be rectified.I hope so because my feelings were hurt by this i would never deny my cat help, I simply did not have the money...She went to far by making this statement, and i feel she could use some lessons on honesty and sympathy !! I feel sorry for her.

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL! I had to put my beloved dog to sleep and they made my horrible experience even more traumatic then it already was. I had to DEMAND my dog back from them as they would not let me see her. They did NOTHING but cause immeasurable suffering as they tried to capitalize on my horrible situation and then charged me $184.00 FOR NOTHING!! My dog had to suffer hours more then needed, I ended up bringing her to the wonderful, caring people at the Animal Emergency Cllinic in Portland. I wish I had gone here first and spared my poor dog undue suffering!!! For anyone needing an emergency vet PLEASE don't go here!!
I would like to follow up with you with regards to your experience at MVRC. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank You.

I brought my Grandmothers cat in for extream dehydration and weight loss, we were told they needed to do blood tests bfore rehydrating, and it would be approx 30 min. we arrived at 5 pm saturday. at 8 pm they came out and told use their blood machine was on the blink and needed another sample. this time they siad it would be 10 min for the results. 30 minutes later I give up and leave with the cat to bring home. Im not entrusting my cats life to people that cant even get the simple blood tests done.
I would like to follow up with you in regards to your experience at MVRC. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
