Swedish Massage
Swedish massage has a direct mechanical, as well as a reflexive, effect on the tissue of the muscles, nerves, vessels and organs of the body. The rhythmical pumping and long flowing strokes cleanse and empty fluids out of the tissues to allow new to enter. Hot Stone Massage
He began his career in massage therapy in 1976 and incorporates various modalities in his work, including Swedish Massage, Trager® Psychohysical Integration, Myo-fascial Releasing and Deep Tissue Massage, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Touch for Health, Breathwork, Reiki and hot stone therapy. He is a Certified Trager® Practitioner and Hypnotherapist. Besides his work in massage, hypnotherapy and as a teacher of Autogenics(a form of self-hypnosis which combines focused meditation and auto suggestion), Jerome is also involved inpeace and justice advocacy. For relaxation, he likes to take nature walks/ hikes, play tennis, practice qigong, meditate, read and write poetry. But, Tamai Tempaku in 1919 merged Western understanding of anatomy, physiology and massage with oriental bodywork therapies. He wrote “Shiatsu Ho” and “Ampuku” (Hara-similiar to the Chinese Dan Tien in the middle of the lower abdomen, the elizir of Life). His students Ka tsusuke Srizawa, Tokujiro Namikoshi and the mother of Shizuto Maunaga developed their own approaches and founded schools which still influence modern Shiatsu. Momentarily Shiatsu was again banned by the US army post World War II but was re-instated after an outcry from the Japanese people. In 1985 it was legally recognized by the Japanese government and throughout the Japanese industries it is offered free to their workforce as a preventative for loss of work. Toshiko Phipps brought and taught Shiatsu to the US in 1950. In the 70’s, Shiatus became more widely known and by the 80s the following forms evolved...

Myofascial Therapy
In the 20’s Dr. William Niedner, DO and the physiotherapist Elizabeth Dicke simultaneously developed the “Fascial Twist”. The term “Myofascial” was coined in the 1940s by Dr. Janet Travell, MD. In the 1950’s Ida Rolf systematized a system of soft tissue manipulation with movement and assessment that has since spawned several contemporary schools of myofascial therapy.
Applied Kinesiology
Touch for Health is a form of Applied Kinesiology. It was developed by Dr. John F. Thie, a chiropractor who extended the ideas of a fellow chiropractor, Dr. George Goodheart.

Acupressure
While training to be a massage therapist she worked as a bookkeeper for Unicef and waitressed/hosted at restaurants locally. She graduated from The Heide Brenneke School of Massage in 1980 and was state licensed professionally as a massage therapist in ‘81. In ‘82 she co-founded Abintra Wellness Center and has since been a massage practitioner and shared in the administration of Abintra’s bookkeeping, advertising, office and classroom rentals and maintenance.   Corinne’s massage is influenced by her training in various forms of deep tissue such as Myofascial Release and Trigger Point Therapy, lymphatic drainage, passive and active forms of positional releasing and energetic work, the latter including applied kinesiology, acupressure, and qi gong. She has been certified in pregnancy massage to serve those of her clients who become pregnant. In ‘96 when Kenedy Powell left Abintra, she took over teaching his Foot Reflexiology class, something she has incorporated in her work since she first began massage. She also taught Swedish Massage. Corinne always continues to deepen her understanding and application of the different massage modalities she has learned.
Acupuncture
As humans develop embryologically, it has been said that this development occurs in longitudinal zones creating a connection and communication along those lines similar to the energetic meridians used in acupuncture.
