At Kisiolek Eye Center we have daily appointments set aside to better address all your Emergency needs. Symptoms of emergencies include eye pain, redness, discharge, sudden loss of vision, flashes and floaters, embedded foreign particles or other injuries. If you ever have unusual symptoms like these, just call our office and we will see you the same day. We diagnose and treat eye infections, abrasions, chemical burns, foreign bodies, eyelid lumps, corneal ulcers, glaucoma, allergies, inflammatory disease and many other eye problems.
Macular Degeneration
While adults often take sunwear very seriously for themselves, they sometimes don’t think about protecting the kids. Children’s sunglasses are frequently an impulse purchase from the toy store, with little thought for durability or protection. Yet young eyes need the same UV shielding as adult eyes. We know that long-term exposure to UV light contributes to premature cataract formation and macular degeneration, both good reasons to start sunglass wear early in life.

Eye problems: LASIK patients should make their eye doctor aware of certain eye problems including amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (muscle imbalance), or any recurrent, residual or active eye conditions that may influence healing. Other conditions that should be discussed with the doctor include keloid scarring with previous surgical healing, back problems and claustrophobia. Please make your eye doctor aware of any mental health conditions, as these may also affect your LASIK surgery or recovery.

A wide range of eye conditions and diseases can be detected with slit-lamp examination, including cataracts, macular degeneration, corneal ulcers, diabetic retinopathy, etc.

Ultrasound
Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) – Recent developments in computer imaging technology allow us to easily and rapidly image the retina utilizing a three-dimensional cross-section. This revolutionary test allows us to better understand and view disease progression of the retina, macula, and optic nerve long before actual vision loss. This technology utilizes real-time information of the living eye, analogues to an in vivo histological section of retinal tissue. Images are viewed immediately, and analyzed, utilizing a database of normal outcomes of a patient’s age. The tomograph image can be compared to an ultrasound, but instead of sound, the process utilizes reflected light and converts the layered image into varied identifiable colors. This technology allows us to more accurately follow disease progression, and has quickly become the standard of care for patients with documented cautions, strong family histories, or simply to monitor the effectiveness or timing of treatment.
