Teeth Cleaning
Cavities are a type of decay typically caused by consuming sugary and acidic food and drinks. Tooth brushing and regular exams and cleanings can prevent them, but sometimes they develop despite oneâ€™s best efforts. The most common types of cavities develop on the tops of teeth and require a filling to remove the decay.
Fluoride Treatment
Receiving a fluoride treatment is very simple and only takes a few minutes. When your child comes in, a skilled member of our team will apply a fluoride gel directly to their teeth using a swab, a brush, or a tray that is placed into their mouth. From there they mustnâ€™t eat or drink for 30 minutes. Thatâ€™s all the treatment consists of, so it is very easy to undergo. One of our dentists may recommend this treatment at every or every other check up, and they will inform you of the optimal schedule for your child.
Dental Sealants
When your kid comes in for their first visit, we will take detailed x-rays of their mouth, so we have a good idea of their oral health and the current status of their smile. From there, we can come up with course of action to ensure their teeth remain as healthy as possible. One of our highly skilled hygienists will also clean their teeth and help teach them good brushing and flossing habits, so they can thrive at home. Finally, one of our dentists will conduct an examination to get a closer look at their teeth. From there, they can recommend other procedures like dental sealants or fillings. Overall, the first visit is a great time for us to get to know you and your family and to work with you to make sure your childâ€™s mouth will be healthy for a lifetime.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are a common tool in pediatric dentistry. They are helpful devices that maintain the space where a baby tooth was lost early. When your child loses a primary tooth prematurely â€” from injury or other external causes â€” there is a gap until their adult tooth comes in. For various reasons, the existing teeth can move around and shift which can end up crowding the gap, making it more difficult and causing complications for the adult toothâ€™s eruption. The space maintainers ensure that there is enough space for the adult tooth to come in unhindered.

The procedure is straightforward and brief. We will first numb the area with anesthesia, so your child will not feel anything. Next, we remove the pulp chamber to rid the tooth of decay. We then restore the tooth back to its normal shape. If the pulpotomy takes place on a molar, we will likely use a crown to restore it. On a front tooth, we will likely use a composite resin to give it back its natural look.
Crowns
Your kid will need a dental crown if their tooth is significantly damaged â€” whether it is cracked, chipped, or has been hurt by decay. It can also strengthen a tooth after a filling has been placed. A crown is made from metal, porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or zirconia. Usually, metal ones go on the molars because these teeth are less visible and need to withstand more bite pressure. Porcelain is the more common choice for teeth in the front of the mouth. Regardless of the material used, your childâ€™s dentist will make the crown blend seamlessly in with the rest of their teeth to make it as unnoticeable as possible.

Pulpotomy
We know monitoring your childâ€™s brushing habit can be difficult. They are often resistant to brushing and sometimes do a lackluster job. While it might not seem important when they still have baby teeth, decay can still occur in these teeth. If it is shallow, a filling should be able to remove it. In some cases, the decay goes deep inside the tooth â€” known as pulpitis â€” causing painful inflammation. When this happens, we can perform a pulpotomy, which removes the part of the toothâ€™s pulp that has been infected by decay. This may sound intense, but it is a routine procedure of pediatric dentistry.
Root Canal Treatment
If the nerves in the pulp of your childâ€™s teeth are still alive, we can perform a pulpotomy to remove the infected portion. If they arenâ€™t, then a root canal is necessary. If nerves are still working, then we will conduct this procedure. We first determine the severity of the issue by taking x-rays of the problem tooth. Depending on what we see upon examination we will be able to what route to take. If we can, in fact, remove part of the pulp and keep the tooth intact, we will move forward with the pulpotomy.
