Endometriosis
Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus. Symptoms include abdominal pain, heavy periods, and infertility. Treatments include pain relievers, birth control pills, and surgery.

In many cases, a woman can experience painful intercourse if there is not sufficient vaginal lubrication, which may be related to menopause. Other causes include include vaginal infections, intercourse too soon after surgery or childbirth, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Sex pain can be caused by sexually transmitted diseases, such as genital herpes. Treatment may include estrogen creams or other prescription medications, and if there is no underlying medical cause, therapy.

Birth defects affect 3-4% of all pregnancies. Some, but not all, of the possible birth defects can be discovered by blood tests, ultrasound and genetic testing.

Vaginal vault prolapse occurs when the upper portion of the vagina loses its normal shape and sags or drops down into the vaginal canal or outside of the vagina. Vaginal vault prolapse is usually caused by weakness of the pelvic and vaginal tissues and muscles. It happens most in women who have had their uterus removed (hysterectomy).
