I boarded my 8 year old Golden Retriever this past weekend. Evidently when he was being groomed he fell off the table. While trying to get him back on the table the choke chain he was hanging from damaged his eye.My husband took him around the corner to our vet. Ileft work to go see him and was told by my vet that he had severe trauma to his head and his eye may have to be removed. I went to visit the owner of Heidelberg German Shepherds, and was told to pay the vet bill myself and if I tried to sue them I would be responsible for their attorney fees. I was told by Wayne that my dog was spooked by the blower and bit their groomer and they only way they could get him to release was to beat him in the head. Wayne told me that they had to drag him into the courtyard and at least two employees where hitting him in the head and kicking him. When was the last time you boarded or groomed your dog and rushed them to the vet for severe head trauma?
We sadly had to put our beloved dog down on 2/11/17 due to complications from head injury he sustained while in the care of this horrible place. Stay away!
Dear Heidelberg Friends,
Sabre has been a fantastic family member and protector and I love him dearly. He's been everything I was looking for in a German Shepherd and more. I purchased this gorgeous male, Sabre, from your kennel back in 2002. He was only 3 years old when I brought him into my family. I can't tell you how happy I am that I found such a wonderful dog. I'm sure you hear stories like this all the time, but he has saved my house from being robbed three times that I know of. He guards his family just like you said he would and has never had any guard dog training to do it. It is true that German Shepherds are absolutely fearless in protecting your property and your family with their life if necessary. I know that Heidelberg German Shepherd breeds the best of the best! A German Shepherd bred with the great instinctive temperament that Heidelberg produces never need to be trained to protect, it is instinctive! I will only buy German Shepherds from you guys because I know you produce the best! I cannot wait to get another dog, which will hopefully be soon! Thanks!
I have not purchased a GSD from Heidelberg, but based on how they treated my dog while she was in their care, I would never purchase an animal from them.
I boarded my dog with Heidelberg from June 6 - June 15. When my husband picked her up, she had two very large hot spots on both flanks. They told him it was probably caused by intestinal worms and then proceeded to sell him a dewormer for $36. My husband was so caught off guard that he didn't even think to question it or to remember that our dog is on Tri-Heart Plus which prevents intestinal worms as well as heart worms. Our dog is 12 years old. In those 12 years, she has never inflicted a hot spot on herself, nor has she had worms.
When we dropped her off on June 6, she was the picture of perfect health. When we picked her up, she had two huge, oozing, painful sores bigger than the size of my hand and was having difficulty walking. On one side it covered the ENTIRE flank.
I had to take her to the vet and the vet was shocked that any facility would let it get to that point without notifying us or at least putting on an e-collar. Her exact words were, "This is unacceptable" and she told me to contact your facility's manager to complain. I emailed Heidelberg with pictures and left a message, but never received a response.
The lack of notification or action on their part leads me to believe that they just locked her in a cage for over a week and paid no attention to her. This infuriates me because I drove over an hour to board her there. I believed the runs to be larger and the care to be better. Clearly, I was mistaken. I am not blaming them for my dog's actions, but I do hold them responsible for their inaction. Their callous disregard for her pain makes me wonder how they treat the dogs they breed.
I have purchased two dogs from these folks, both wonderful animals, their methods are a bit strange but they seem to work for these dogs, having said this if you are looking for a nice pet, these are your guys, if you are looking for a working dog walk away, they do not have that kind of temperament, my wife works for a police department and we got a working dog from a different breeder, it was night and day.
As for their boarding and kenneling? STAY AWAY.... FAR AWAY, each time I have taken any of my dogs or friend's dogs there they have come back infested with tics, no exception!!!! The place should be called TicStock.... they always give the same excuse, that the dog either had them to begin with or that the field next to their property has tics sometimes.... never again will I buy from them or board with them

We boarded our German Shepherd puppy here over Thanksgiving. When we picked him up, we noticed that his eyes were bloody and incredibly swollen. He had open wounds on his nose, and in various placed throughout his body. They said nothing about it, and when we brought it up, one worker just walked away. A female worker tried to usher us away from other customers as they were very busy at this time. She said maybe it was an allergic reaction to the "new shampoo" that they had, and put drops in his eyes. We went straight to the Emergency Vet. He was there and went through numerous tests for over 8 hours. The vet ruled out excessive straining, and allergic reactions. Her final diagnosis was severe trauma to the head. He later developed infections in his open wounds. When I called Eugene/Wayne a few days later to find out exactly what happened, he informed me that they knew about the injuries during my dog's entire stay. Why they didn't choose to call and inform me is truly beyond me. He became very defensive, before I even told him anything about the vet. The first words that came out of his mouth was "we did not hit your dog in the head." His words, not mine- incredibly suspicious. I asked for help in paying the bills, and he stated that since we signed the agreement, "whatever happens during boarding is what happens during boarding and you'll have to deal with that on your own." I literally had to beg him for an apology, which which he replied: "Dear ma'am, sorry about your dog. Best regards" as if he were reading from a pre-made apology. No care or compassion. I kindly reminded him that word of mouth is a big thing for a business like his, and he informed me that I, or a will never be welcome at his business again (as if I were interested in returning). PLEASE, DO NOT board your dog here. Though I clearly won't be returning, my hope is that I can convince other people to do their research before choosing to board here- please keep your pets safe from these people.

I boarded my dog here in June. When I picked her up she had scabs on both her legs so I called the next day to ask what happened. I was told she must have rolled around on the concrete too much. I didn't think it was a big deal until I noticed she hurt when she was walking. Upon further inspection I realized all four paws were beginning to peel as if they were burned. It go so bad they were even pussing and oozing when you separated them. She did not walk for close to 3 weeks. I had to take her to the vet because she was in so much pain. She was put on tramadol and antibiotics for two more week. When I spoke to Wayne about it he didn't even apologize. He said she probably played to much on the concrete. I even sent him the photos to show him the extent of her burns with no response. All four paws literally sloathed off and took close to a month to grown back. I trusted them to take care of my dog and they failed to make sure her environment was safe. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE!!!!!

My poor Annie came back with TICKS and was traumatized. She slept for a 2 whole days the second she got home from being boarded. DON'T TAKE YOUR DOG THERE!

I'll never get over what a nasty, disgusting, lying group of people this company is owned and run by. My dog has 3 proven genetic disorders from their crappy breeding. He is now showing terrible signs of hip dysplasia and won't have much time left. A few things to know about these people... The 5 star reviews are posted by a hired company to boost their ratings. They are fake reviews. Talk to local vets. They have a HORRIBLE reputation for breeding defective dogs. Every vet in the town knows them and will tell you to stay away. Go find out for yourself. Do your research.

We purchased a GSD from Heidelburg in 2004. Smart, energetic, and drop dead gorgeous. Unfortunately, at age 7 he developed Degenerative Myelopathy, a genetic disease of the spinal sheath. He lost the use of his legs, and the last year of his life was pretty tough. As were the conversations with our 3 year old son about what was wrong with Max. We will never do business with Eugene again. His dogs have genetic issues in their bloodlines.

I cannot tell you all how happy I am that I found this WONDERFUL dog, friend, companion and alarm system. I am sure you hear stories like this all the time, but he has saved my home from being robbed or broken into on two separate occasions. I am so grateful he has come into my life.

We love our new puppy, he is just amazing and so smart. The breeder really seemed to know the breed well and loved her dogs, they live as pets in the home and not in kennels.

I love the dog that I got from Heidelberg German Shepherd. She grew up to be a very nice dog. I am amazed at how my dog can control her strength as she loves to play with other dogs. It does not matter what size they are, she never over powers them at all. If I decide on getting another German Shepherd I was definitely get it from Heidelberg!
