Laser Eye Surgery
If you’ve been longing to reduce—or even eliminate—your dependence on glasses and contact lenses, you’ve probably looked into refractive surgery. LASIK is a modern, state-of-the-art refractive procedure designed to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism (uneven focusing of light). LASIK involves using cool pulses of light to prepare the cornea for surgery. The cornea is then reshaped using a cool ultra-violet laser. The whole procedure generally takes around 15 minutes per eye. Diabetes is a disease that affects the body's ability to produce or use insulin effectively to control blood sugar levels. Diabetic retinopathy, the most common diabetic eye disease, is the result of damage to the small blood vessels located in the retina (the light sensitive lining at the back of the eye) caused by high blood sugar levels for an extended period of time. Damage to these blood vessels can lead to vision loss.

Ultrasound
The surgeon makes an incision and uses ultrasound waves to break up the hard, yellow proteins that form the cataract, leaving the lens membrane in place.
