Internal Medicine
Dr. Montgomery received his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Boston University. After an internship in Internal Medicine at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts, he completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Vermont. After completing a Body Imaging and MRI fellowship at the University of Vermont, Dr. Montgomery joined CRA. He pioneered the use of the stereotactic breast biopsy procedure in Syracuse and started the area’s first Breast MRI program in 1997. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and has served as the Director of Breast Imaging at Crouse Hospital’s Breast Health Center since 1995.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses reflected sound waves to image inside the body. Similar to an echo from a canyon wall, the ultrasound machine sends out high-frequency and inaudible sound waves that reflect off body structures. A computer receives the reflected waves and reconstructs images of tissues and fluid. This exam uses no radiation.
MRI
MRI utilizes the interaction between body tissues in a strong magnetic field with radio waves to image soft tissues without radiation. Devices called coils, which are sophisticated antennae, may be placed on or near your body for certain scans to improve the reception of the radio wave signal.
Radiology
Dr. Sullivan has received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Syracuse University. She earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University followed by completing internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Sullivan then completed a fellowship in Neuroradiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and Tufts Medical Center. She is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology with added qualifications in Neuroradiology.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine is an imaging modality that shows the physiologic function of the system being imaged. A variety of radiopharmaceutical agents are used for different types of exams. A small dose is given and biologic activity of different body organs is tracked by a very sensitive camera. Examples include but are not limited to studies of the skeletal system, heart, liver, gallbladder, kidneys and stomach.
Mammography
3D Mammography is an advanced, clinically proven screening and diagnostic tool designed for early breast cancer detection. The exam is performed the same way as a standard 2D mammogram with no additional compression. CRA Medical Imaging uses new software technology which means lower dose for the patient. The 3D image of breast tissue provides detail in a way never before possible and has been shown to find 40% more invasive cancer than standard mammography. This detail also results in reducing the need to return for additional views.
Computed Tomography
Computed Tomography (CT) scanning uses specialized X-ray equipment to produce cross-sectional images of the body. Unlike general X-ray which creates a single image, CT is sensitive to subtle differences in body tissues and reconstructs a volume representation of the area examined using a thin X-ray beam.
Chemotherapy
Radioembolization can be used in combination with chemotherapy for more effective treatment. The source of radiation, Yttrium-90 (Y90), is baked into tiny resin beads, which are then delivered to the tumors through a catheter placed in the hepatic artery, which is the source of blood flow to the tumors. By contrast, normal healthy liver gets its blood mostly from the portal vein, and is therefore spared by the radiation. Side effects are generally minimal, and patients go home within hours after the procedure.
Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology (IR) offers an alternative to surgical treatment of many conditions and in some cases can eliminate the need for hospitalization.

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Viola received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine where he was also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellow. He completed an Internal Medicine internship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Viola also completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency and Musculoskeletal Imaging fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology with a special interest in sports medicine MRI and musculoskeletal procedures including spine interventions for pain management.
