Gate Replacement/Installation
Driveways
The concrete columns and arbor create shade for the travertine patio while providing the desired look of a Tuscan villa. An old cracked concrete driveway was broken up, chemically stained and reset with gravel and grass to create an old world look.
Gazebos
In addition to our design capabilities, The Great Outdoors is also a construction firm, which can handle all your installation needs, such as: arbors & gazebos, hillside decks, retaining walls, water features, irrigation, drainage systems, grading, 110 electrical & low voltage lighting, and landscaping. (Note: All projects on this web site were installed by The Great Outdoors.)
Retaining Walls
The original large back yard was awkwardly split into two levels. A retaining wall dividing the yard in half was removed, and the space was graded to one level. This allowed for the garage to be converted into a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, bar, and arbor.
A recently restored Ray Kappe design house, the Kagan house is elevated above the terrain by several "buttresses". Utilizing a natural spring at the bottom of the property, we constructed a natural watercourse running from a proposed lap pool at the top of the property, under the elevated house, and down the front slope. The natural spring supplies water for the cascade. We complemented this feature with native riparian shrubs and trees and multi-level redwood decks.
Patios
The entryway arbor employs galvanized steel with wood beams. Travertine was used extensively on patios and decking surrounding the remodeled pool and new spa. Grass joints in a new exposed aggregate driveway softened the extensive use of hardscape. Opening up an overgrown hillside revealed the perfect spot for a private garden with unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.
Garage Door Repair/Replacement
The goal for this project was to transform an aging ranch house and outdated pool into a contemporary living space with clean lines and updated materials. Architectural elements of brushed aluminum with sandblasted glass were designed into gates and a new garage door.
