Surgery for glaucoma may be recommended when other treatments, like medication, have not effectively controlled the disease. It may also be considered in cases where vision loss is progressing despite treatment.
Ophthalmology
Also called Eye Plastic Surgery, Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty of surgical ophthalmology. In general, oculoplastic procedures deal with the management of abnormalities of the tear (lacrimal) system, eyelids, orbit (bony eye socket), and surrounding facial area. An oculoplastic surgeon is an ophthalmologist – medical doctor and eye surgeon – who also completed advanced training in plastic surgery for the ocular region.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is the deterioration of the central part of the retina, the part of the eye that records the images we see and sends them back to the brain. As the macula deteriorates, the brain receives blurred or distorted images instead of clear and bright images.
Laser Eye Surgery
Do you want to be glasses and contacts-free but don’t qualify for laser eye surgery? Or, perhaps you’re concerned with surgery-related complications and desire a safer option? Imagine waking up every morning with clear and sharp vision. Thanks to these specialty lenses, you don’t have to wear glasses or contacts during the day, and best of all — it’s surgery-free.
Cataracts
50% of people aged 65 and older have a cataract in one or both eyes. As the cataract progresses, vision deteriorates, leading to a decreased quality of life.
Cataract Surgery
Not only do premium artificial lenses adapt to your eyes functionality, making them virtually unnoticeable overtime, but they can provide a number of benefits that make their added costs reasonable and an investment that immediately improves your overall quality of life. This is why - across the various practices that offer cataract surgery - premium lenses are classified as lifestyle lenses.
Eye Exam
A child patient will undergo a friendly, warm environment during their eye exam. If they need prescription glasses or contacts, they’ll be able to choose from our optical selection. We encourage children to also have retinal imaging done to start their eye health medical history records.
Diabetic retinopathy occurs when the retina's tiny blood vessels weaken and inflate as a result of high blood sugar levels. As the blood vessels grow, they bleed—causing severe vision loss, and in extreme cases even blindness.
Complications after eyelid surgery are very rare, but there are symptoms that can develop post-eyelid surgery
Plastic Surgery
Your eyelids and the surrounding areas of your face are very delicate and complex. Not only do they affect the way you appear, but they also affect your quality of sight. Because specialized and complex medical eye care is a critical part of these types of plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgeons are exclusively qualified to perform the procedures.
Blepharoplasty
Candidates in relatively good health and have realistic expectations are the ideal candidate for the surgery. It’s important to discuss with an oculoplastic surgeon blepharoplasty can help you address baggy eyelids for droopy eyelids. In general, patients are usually over the age of 35.
Laser Resurfacing
Blepharoplasty generally is done for cosmetic reasons, yet the procedure effectively improves older people’s vision when their sagging upper eyelids are disrupting their vision. Eyelid surgery or eye lift is an effective way to remove excess skin around the eyes. However, blepharoplasty will not address any facial wrinkles, crow’s feet, or dark circles underneath eye unless associated with laser resurfacing, filler injections, or forehead lift.
Cosmetic Surgery
Oculoplastic procedures include cosmetic procedures too to smooth out wrinkles and crow’s feet. Injectable fillers can also be used to “lift†saggy eyes and mask the presence of wrinkles. All of these non-surgical cosmetic solutions offer an easy and effective way to combat the aesthetic effects of aging with a youthful, attractive appearance.
Skin cancer of the eyelids is a common condition, which may appear as a lesion or nodule on the eyelid. Such growths must be evaluated by a dermatologist and a biopsy will be done, when necessary. Eye tumor removal is performed without delay.
Lesions
Chemical Peels
In most cases, the oculoplastic surgeon can remove or reposition fat deposits, tighten muscles, and/or remove excess skin through the incision made in your upper eyelid. The incision for lower eyelids is hidden just below the lower lashes to ensure scarring is close to invisible. Most incisions are closed with sutures or skin glue and sutures can be removed within a week. Some surgeons may incorporate laser or chemical peel to reduce discoloration of the lower eyelids.
