Dental Examination
Periodontal disease, or simply known as gum disease, is an inflammatory condition of the gums and the periodontal tissues that surround the teeth. X-rays
The improvements start from the very first stages of the treatment process: imaging. Normal digital dental x-rays are only capable of providing a relatively blurry, low-resolution image of the teeth and jaw that often warps and distorts at various points in the image. A skilled doctor can use these images to properly plan treatment, but it’s still less than ideal.

Teeth Cleaning
Gingivitis is easily treated and reversible through a solid combination of home care and professional dental cleanings. A combination of antibiotics and medicated mouthwashes may be used to kill any remaining bacteria and promote the healing of these pockets.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride incorporates into the enamel of teeth, making the enamel harder and more resistant to decay. Although there is a small amount of fluoride in toothpastes and in some drinking water supplies, our dentist can apply a higher concentration to your child’s teeth for maximum protection.
Dental Sealants
Dr. Skalnik recommends placement of sealants on permanent molars and occasionally premolars depending on anatomy. Sealants can be placed on children ages 4-14, ideally within 6 months of the permanent tooth coming in.
Space Maintainers
Should your child lose a baby teeth prematurely, space maintainers can be fixed to the inside of his or her mouth to retain your child’s bite and healthy tooth alignment until the missing permanent tooth grows in.

Fillings
The simple answer is yes, dental fillings are safe! The Food and Drug Administration and other organizations of the U.S. Public Health Service continue to investigate the safety of the amalgams used in dental fillings, and while currently there is no valid scientific evidence that shows that amalgams cause harm to patients with dental fillings, we do not use amalgam fillings in our practice. Rather, we focus on tooth colored composite fillings.
Resin Composite
Strength – Tooth-colored resin composite fillings actually bond to a patient’s teeth far better than silver or amalgam. The resin composite is actually able to restore the affected tooth’s strength up to 90 percent, which is stronger than traditional metal fillings.
Gold Restorations
Alternatives to amalgam, such as cast gold restorations, porcelain, and composite resins are more expensive. Gold and porcelain restorations take longer to make and can require two appointments. Composite resins, or white fillings, are esthetically appealing, but require a longer time to place.
Veneers
Veneers are an ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain shell that is put on the front surface of teeth. They are cosmetic in nature, meaning that they will improve the appearance of your smile. Dental veneers are carefully made specifically for you, and are later bonded to the front of the teeth.
Crowns
A dental crown is a permanent covering that fits over a decayed, damaged, or cracked tooth. Because of its full coverage, dental crowns can be used even if your damaged tooth is missing a significant amount of structure above the gum line. Crowns are typically made from a porcelain or ceramic material and are matched to your tooth’s natural color to make sure that they blend in perfectly with your teeth.
