Child Custody and Visitation
Barbara Greene, a partner at SBWD Law, joined the firm in 2013. Barbara concentrates in family law matters, specifically, divorce and child custody, adoptions and guardianships. Barbara makes a special effort to explain legal issues clearly and simply, and to communicate with clients so that he or she understands their options at each stage of a proceeding. Barbara prides herself on the fact that her settlement agreements are written in “plain English,” so that each party can understand what is expected of them and what they can expect from the other party. Barbara’s practice and diverse legal background has taken her into courtrooms in almost every county in Maryland.
Adoption
Barbara’s legal career began in 1981 at Westinghouse, now known as Northrop Grumman, concentrating in government contracts law, copyright and trade secret matters. Upon moving to Boston in 1987, Barbara worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she continued to focus on copyright and trade secret issues (now known as “intellectual property law”) by negotiating technology licensing agreements with research sponsors. Barbara then joined a start-up software company as its first in house intellectual property counsel and later opened her own practice in Massachusetts, concentrating on software licensing and technology transfers for engineering and software companies. When Barbara returned to Maryland in 2001, she wanted to expand her courtroom experience, and changed the focus of her practice to family law matters and criminal defense. Since joining SBWD Law, she now concentrates solely on divorce, custody, adoptions and guardianships, assisting people at some of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

Spousal Support
Child Abuse
DON’T HIRE ANYONE ELSE! Roanne has been my lawyer for the last 3 years and has been incredible! My divorce was uncontested and finalized within 6 months of filing however, because my ex was abusive, we have had a very messy custody battle complete with social services reviews, custody evaluations, protective orders, and criminal trials. Roanne has been there every step of the way. She is very easy to get into contact with, responds quickly, always returns phone calls within hours, no matter if the office is open or not. She goes through each detail of the case with a fine-toothed comb, collecting/requesting whatever necessary evidence is needed. She has been ahead of the game through my entire divorce/custody battle; filing motions and requests before my ex does and preventing them from blindsiding us. When we file, she has always thoroughly explained what may happen (how the ex’s lawyer may respond/file) in response to the filings, and she has been right EVERY time. She is by far the most moral and ethical person I’ve ever met. When my ex hurt my children and was criminally charged, she admitted to me that she was not equipped to handle the child abuse portion of the case and helped me to find a lawyer that could. She and the child abuse lawyer currently work together on our custody case. I have the upmost respect for Roanne because of that. Instead of exploiting the opportunity to collect more money, she admitted she was ill-equipped for that portion (without being asked) and then went above and beyond in helping me find another lawyer to help. Due to her honesty, my children are now safe and doing well. She is extremely knowledgeable in family law/custody/divorce and always realistic. She gives me the facts and never inflates our chances of winning. Roanne will often tell me “Our chances are good, but anything can happen”. She has repeatedly told me she’ll never promise we’ll win because of that. That being said, Roanne has moved mountains to ensure the safety of my children and continues to do so. I have recommended several friends who are in custody battles or are facing divorce to her. They are all equally pleased. Additionally, she is affordable (I tell her she doesn’t charge enough) and easy to work with on a payment plan. I cannot speak highly enough of Roanne. She is genuinely a great lawyer, and a great person. Hire her. “

“Catherine Dickenson and Michael Belsky were an absolute pleasure to work with. SBWD Law represented me in a complicated personal injury case where there were a lot of moving pieces. Catherine and Mike were always professional, compassionate, responsive, personable and considerate in every move they made towards me and/or my behalf. They allowed me the space to be vulnerable but also know that I can rely on their professionalism. Most importantly, I would recommend them because they are genuinely good people who care about their clients which is a rare find in today’s world. I consider them like family and encourage anyone who can use their services to reach out.”
