The Planning and Development Department of the City of Valley, Ala. is responsible for administering the zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations and 2006 international building codes and administers rezoning, variance and subdivision reviews. The department also reviews applications for business licenses and development permits that are submitted to the City. Additionally, the Planning and Development Department also reviews building and sign permit applications, applications for home occupation licenses and installation of accessory buildings before a permit or license is issued. The City of Valley's other departments include Parks and Recreation, Public Safety and Public Works.
