I love the groomers at Petsmart!! I have been going there for over 5 years now with 2 mastiffs...my dogs run into the grooming salon and are excited to see everyone there! I can say the bad reviews are likely due to owners with unruly dogs. I've seen a lot of dog parents thinking it's hysterical when their dog bites at the groomers hands and misbehaves! Management is a different story...I certainly don't care for Rich. He's callous to the dogs, owners, and his own staff! The girls in the grooming salon are so great I tolerate management...

I bought two bearded dragons from this store. The first time, was my very first experience buying a bearded dragon. I had studied through books and online about them for about 6 months before buying one. I did everything I was supposed to do by the book. Correct temperatures, no substrate that could hurt him, very small crickets, basking area, correct tank size, uv lighting that spanned the tank. Suddenly, he just died. Lost his appetite in two days and died. Now I had him for about 2 months before this happened and was shocked. I was told by a reptile specialist it was from a bad parasite, likely from the pet store and was advised to avoid the pet store. Well two weeks later my boyfriend decides he wants to buy another bearded dragon from the same place. I literally begged him not to and warned him what happened with the previous one, but he found that to be "an unfortunate extreme case" and bought one anyway. What do you know, she loses her appetite and we drive her to Albany and they take a sample of her stool and she too has a parasite. She's doing okay now that we knew to be proactive about it, but it's kind of 50/50 on if she'll really make it to be a healthy lizard. I have since bought two bearded dragons from breeders and they are both amazing, great eaters and are very active. Please just try to avoid this pet store because I think the saying "fool me once, shame on you fool me twice shame on me" is really appropriate here. It wasn't just a mistake or a coincidence.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to put a less than one star rating on this site. I went to Petsmart in Vestal today to buy a green anole as a tank companion for my current anole. When I went to the store, they had a variety of anoles, with at least 10 different lizards, squished into a small 5 gallon tank. I picked out a small green anole that looked about the size of my own. The woman who was helping me had NO experience in getting creatures out of the tanks and broke the tail of the anole as she was taking it out. The poor thing ended up with a cracked tail that was still hanging on to it's body by a thread. It was bleeding all over the paper towel in the carrier she had given me. I then noticed that above where the tail had broken was a circular white mark that looked like a fungal infection. I told this to the woman and she called over her manager, who, upon finding out that I wasn't about to buy a sick lizard, told the woman to put it back in the tank with all of the others. THAT IS NOT OKAY. It is NEVER okay to put a sick animal back into an enclosure with other animals, particularly not such a small enclosure with multiple types of anoles that were fighting with one another over crickets. Needless to say Petsmart will no longer be getting my business and I will be calling the head manager of the store tomorrow.

I took my dog to PetSmart in Vestal, NY on a Sunday afternoon for grooming, nothing fancy, just a bath and they trimmed the fur around his paws (Cavalier King Charles). When I got there, there were 3 young females standing around talking. My first thought was do they even know how to groom a dog... When I went to pick my dog up, he seemed a little congested as we walked out the door to the car. It was about a half hour drive home and when we got in the house, he started rubbing his head on the carpet and on the couch, then on his blanket & started shaking his head. I got a dry cloth to wipe his ears, which were wet & noticed his eyes were bloodshot. He sat down looked at me and his eyes were now half shut and swollen. Petsmart was now closed so I could not call them until the next morning at 9:00 AM. All night I was awake with my dog as he whimpered & paced around. I had to gently put cold packs on his eyes to help ease the swelling and redness & h was congested. I called our vet the next morning & they suggested I continue putting a cold cloth on his eyes & bring him in if it got worse because he had a terrible reaction & they asked I find out what they used. Once I got through to the grooming manager & told her about my dog, she was totally, I mean totally, unsympathetic & said "they now give eyewashes on the dogs & don't consult first with the pet's owner & to call call her back with an updated status on him & I tol add my comments to an incident report". I wanted to know what they used on my dog that caused him to suffer like he did & still was. She would not tell me & did not want to pursue it with me. And said nothing more. I also wanted to know why they don't tell the pet owner of their new policy of eye washes because some dogs may be alergic to the eye wash or have eye problems. I was pissed! No apology given, no checking in to it, no info given to me, just a don't care attitude & oh, well, live & learn. This was the 2nd time my dog had a reaction to their products & they would not disclose what they used or did. They won't tell you what products they use & their personnel are inexperienced. The few times I have been there it's always someone new. I have been told most recently & by one of the store workers that there have been quite a few complaints with how they treat the dogs & their grooming capabilities. They use cheap products, are careless and are only there for a paycheck, nothing else. Customers, beware! Find another groomer, a good one you can trust, or do what I am now going to do if you can, and groom your own dog. YOU are the only one that truly cares for your wonderful, precious pet. Stay away from PetSmart if you care about your pet!!
