What a miserable experience. Checked a few on line reviews found mixed results and figured we'd give it a shot since they were local and been in business for so long. MISTAKE. Must certainly be a 2nd generation business, as Dave at the Waterford location is nothing more than a 2nd rate BS'r used car salesman. Tuesday 4-15 Hunny takes van there for new motor, quick discussion about problem, what to expect and get assurances our van will be started by weeks end and ready following week. Following week arrives not hearing anything become concerned and Tuesday 4-22 call there to check on status.... You guessed it ..... Dave starts with the "we're so busy and haven't even started it yet" routine, but promises it will be strted 1st of following week. Patiently wait entire week but come Thursday 4-24 still not heard a word and assuming the worst call there AGAIN to politely check on status and YEEEP. Same 'ol story, except this time we get the "Ohhh don't worry, your van is next up and we are "hoping" to get it into the shop tomorrow to begin". Sorry Dave but already being out of a work van for well over a week and knowing this type of BS all to well and after 2 broken promises (or should we say "used car guy lines of BS) tell Dave enough is enough and to have our van out front, keys in it and ready to go. (Now it gets even worse).......... 2 broken promises and over a week and 1/2 later without even a single wrench being turned on it, Dave informs us that (due to his ineptitude) that if we cancel it, we're subject to a 65 dollar cancelation fee to cover HIS COSTS for credit card fees. SOME F'ING NERVE......YOU blantantly lie not once but TWICE, then want to charge us for your incompentence.... Sorry buddy !!! (It gets even better) As we ready to get the van phone rings and it's Dave asking US, yes US the customer if we have jumper cables for the van (which has been sitting in his lot for week and a 1/2) to jump it, when it has a new battery not even 2 months old in it. Beyond peeved but still polite tell Dave we want van running, charged and ready for pick up. (it gets better) Get there and yeep.. Van still sitting in same spot, NOT RUNNING and his guys (who claim they're mechanics) have no clue what's wrong, but now he and his "mechnic" have no problems telling me (who they see as a dumb woman they can screw over) that it nust be a starter or solenoid and that battery didn't look new. So this dumb woman asks "Did you hit the factory alarm / kill switch on the key fob"? (guess what the reply was?) So this dumb woman hits the fob (which my husband told them about.... TWICE) and low and behold van starts. Then Dave showing how clueless he truly is begins to tell me "if you take it anywhere else they are going to get the motor from us and we hate to pull you out of line"... Sorry Dave... Japer engines in Michigan has one IN STOCK and in 3 days / Monday, we'll have our van back. Moral of the story...... What a waste of our time and if you value your time (and money), DO NOT do the same. God only knows how much longer this would of gone on had we left it there, and how much of a mess this whole thing would of morphed into had we actually had these "wanna be" mechanics actually do the work. I mean, come on.... A DUMB WOMAN has to show a bunch of "Mechanics" something as simple as a common key fob alarm to start a vehicle?

This is the worst place I have ever taken my car to..My car has been in the shop for a whole month and two weeks..as soon as I leave their shop it breaks down. I have been totally ripped off by this place..They put a enigine and starter on my car.. for about $6400 dollars total and my car breaks the very minute I leave their shop..they are a bunch of thieves ripping customers off for thousands of dollars..and when you take. your car to them they will say it's not the job they just did. it's something else...it's sad they would do this to genuine people..who work hard for their money only to be ripped off in the end..I wish I never met this company. they make other car shops look bad..the were dishonest from day one..I gave me my first invoice and then ask for it back. The was labor was supposed to be $85 a hour but they re-did the invoice for $95..I then new this was going to be bad..I gave them the benefit of doubt..I shouldn't have. I'm furious with this place...crooks.

I had bought an engine from Michigan Motor Exchange 7 years ago and since resold my vehicle to a family member. Then my daughter recently blew up her engine right before leaving for college. The first place I thought of was Michigan Motor Exchange. I took it in and they replaced the engine in her Cavalier. They were professional and very reasonable. Now I feel good sending her off to college with a dependable vehicle and warranty too.

I just had Michigan Motor Exchange put a remanufactured engine into my 1998 Bravada. So far everything is running great. No one including myself wants to spend money on an older SUV but it turns out that it was cheaper than buying a new or used car with higher miles. So, for a few thousand bucks, I have a SUV that my 16 year old can drive. Looks good and runs great. David was very helpful in the process and straight forward about the costs. He gave me an competitive quote for the engine and after evaluating what else the truck needed...It was my decision....no pressure. It made sense to invest a bit more to address other non engine related issues. I had my truck back in just over a week. I was refered to Michigan Motor Exchange by another automotive shop. I am happy with my experience.

If you have money to waste then take your vehicle to Michigan Motor Exchange, if you want it done right stay away from them. They tried to rebuild my F-150 5.0 and was a complete disaster. It sounded worse then when I brought it in. Their answers was "well sometimes that happens". So long sucker, we have your $5,000 now. I took a bath on the trade-in because of them.

I brought my 1995 Chevy S-10 into Michigan Motor Exchange for an engine back in July of 2004. Now after ten years and a 100,000 miles of running great I figured they would be the best people to deal with when I needed to have my transfer case replaced. They are good, honest people. Thanks Michigan Motor Exchange on a job well done.

I am incredibly happy that I called Dave at Michigan Motor Exchange in Waterford after hearing the nonsense my dealer was throwing at me to troubleshoot and repair my engine that one day sounded like someone threw their toolbox into. Dave was extremely patient with me explaining all the options and his quoted cost for a certified used low mileage engine fully installed was less than a third of what the dealer was quoting me. I had my car towed to Waterford for the engine swap and the next morning Dave called to tell me it was ready to pick up and nothing was wrong with it other than a sticky valve or something that fixed itself. The dealer was ready to fleece me blind and these guys were honest and ethical. If you don't believe this review, contact Dave and he will show you the letter I wrote to them. Do yourself a major favor. Talk to Dave before you commit to anything else. These are good people !!!!!

I must GIVE Michigan Motor Exchange a five star review for the ability to GET five star reviews. Just an observation...but have you ever purchased a product that you absolutely loved? Did you take the time to give the product a five star review? If you did, were ALL the other reviews five star? Did you take the time to create accounts on multiple sites and give the same five star review? Were you still posting gushing reviews eight months later? That is truly something that is beyond my comprehension. I have been on various sites for many months, trying to tell my story of the defective engine that Michigan Motor Exchange provided...and trying to get a full refund for this five star mess. It has been a pain to do this and I sure would like to be doing something else. While I was making the rounds the other day, I accidentally ran across a VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE BUSINESS contest that was sponsored by a local TV station. I was gobsmacked to find that all the usual five star reviewers were also voters in this contest. How could they all be aware of this? Now that's dedication. Or is it something else? Just an observation...and I'm still waiting for a full refund from the people who have claimed to do an honest job for an honest price... and provided me with a defective engine on three occasions. Do unto others? Waiting for my refund and waiting to see a two, three or four star review.

We decided to go to MME with our daughters car when she had timing chain issues that destroyed her motor. We went to the Westland shop and they made us feel extremely comfortable with our decision even with the cost. We told them we needed them to do a "bang up" job on the car as she was a college student commuting. The assured me they would deliver and that we would be extremely happy with our choice. So far, the car runs like NEW and I am very happy with the choice we made. A big Thank You goes out to the guys at MME for delivering as promised.

My engine was rebuilt and installed by Michigan Motor Exchange and has been a five star mess from the beginning. It is easy to talk, and I am sure that they have many success stories to talk about in the many decades they have been in business. My engine is not one of their success stories and I have never seen a group of people willing to make excuses, pass blame and not take responsibility for inferior work as did Michigan Motor Exchange in my case. After having my engine three times, I was still provided with a defective and unsafe product. I want a full refund but am being held hostage under their warranty offers, which they seem to feel justifies the mess that they provided after having the vehicle three times. I was told on my last visit that nothing was wrong with my engine and they could do no more, when the engine has had cross contamination of oil/coolant from day one. Not a place I would trust to do further work and use their warranty as if it were a get out of jail free card. Their customer satisfaction leaves a lot to be desired and I don't consider them to be as professional as they claim to be. I do not trust them to do further service to a vehicle that should have been a success story if their work was as good as their claims I would not recommend their services. Still waiting for that full refund!
