Dental Examination
After a comprehensive examination and initial non-surgical treatments, pockets may remain that are too deep to clean with daily at-home oral hygiene and routine professional care.
X-rays
Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-rays machine used in situations where regular dental x-rays are not sufficient. The CT scanner uses a special technology to generate three dimensional (3D) images of dental structures, soft tissue, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. Images obtained with cone beam CT allow more precise treatment planning.

Teeth Cleaning

Crowns
If a tooth is badly worn, decayed or fractured below the gum line, it may be necessary to remove a small amount of bone and gum tissue before your dentist will be able to make a new crown for your tooth. As a rule, simply trimming back the gum is not sufficient.
Bridges
If the tooth being removed is going to be replaced with an implant or a fixed bridge, Dr. Gandhi may recommend placing bone graft material in the area to significantly slow down the bone resorption process and preserve the bone height and width at its pre-extraction level. If ridge preservation is not done at the time of extraction, the height and width of the bone ridge will immediately begin to deteriorate (shrink) with the healing process.

Deep Cleaning
Treatment methods vary and depend upon the type of disease and how far the condition has progressed. In all cases, the first step is usually a thorough cleaning that will include scaling and root planning to remove plaque and tartar deposits beneath the gum line. This will allow gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth.

Dentures
Dental implants consists of three parts: 1) the implant, which replaces the root, is placed in the bone of the upper or lower jaw and allowed to bond with the bone and serve as an anchor for the replacement tooth; 2) the abutment, which serves as a connector between the implant and the crown; and 3) the crown or tooth, which is fabricated by a dental laboratory, placed by a restorative dentist and attached to the abutment. Dental implants can be used to replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth. Implant-supported replacement teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth. Dental implants may also be used to support and retain dentures. Dental implants are a proven restorative option with a long clinical history. Dental implants preserve the integrity of the facial structure and reduce the inconvenience associated with tooth loss.

Tooth Extractions
Despite our best efforts to save a tooth, sometimes tooth extraction is the only alternative. Many factors can contribute to this, extensive trauma, decay, gum disease or badly cracked or broken teeth. Teeth may also need to be removed because they are poorly positioned in the mouth such as impacted teeth or in preparation for orthodontic treatment. There are two main types of dental extractions: simple extraction and surgical extraction.

Orthodontics
Recession is often a result of vigorous brushing, naturally thin tissues, or stretching of tissues during orthodontics. If there is still adequate attached gum to act as a barrier to the cheek muscles, and there is no esthetic concern or cold sensitivity, the treatment for recession is to ensure further damage isn't done when brushing. However, if the attached gum is worn to the point where it cannot resist the constant pull of the cheek, recession will continue unless a new hard band of gum is placed. Unchecked, the recession can cause tooth loss because the supporting bone recedes with the receding tissue and therefore, tooth support weakens.
Braces
